Not the result we were expecting! Full credit to Japan who deserved the win. Ireland need to pick themselves up again now for their last 2 group matches against Samoa and Russia.

Despite two tries Ireland go into the break just 3 points ahead at 12-9. A high penalty count, and with Japan playing unpredictably and at a frenetic pace, it's been a difficult end to the 1st half for the men in green who will be glad to see half time.

Rob Kearney dives over for Ireland's second try. Converted by Carty. Ireland 12-3 up.

Garry Ringrose with a brilliant catch and over the line he goes. Carty misses the conversion and Japan reply with a penalty. Ireland 5-3 up.
