@Saosin was a very challenging project to work on for our production team. The band switched singers from Anthony Green to a new vocalist @whoiscove Understandably there was a lot of nervousness from the band about a new singer and an unfamiliar production process for the record. We had a band meeting after the first recording day where we had to unpack our thoughts... it was a bit uncomfortable. The meeting ended with us airing our issues and we plowed on.
I felt that the drumming parts and complex guitar/bass parts were a critical musical difference between Saosin and other artists at that time. Alex's creative and very orchestrated approach to the music combined with the guitarists @beaubeef and @JustinShekoski and Chris’ amazing riffs and interplay would set it apart. I just needed strong melody and concepts to tie it together.
Cove to me was an amazing but a new to the studio singer... raw talent and I knew he had great chops just after the first song. We kept the distractions to a minimum. He met the moment and delivered melodies and energy that were comparable to vocalists that had years of experience. I considered this record as one of my favorite vocal productions. This track, “You’re Not Alone”, one of the singles, had the working title of “Sexy Delay”!
Sometimes blood on the tracks is what makes great recordings... this one definitely had that!
