An Igbo man representing Yoruba people sponsored 29 people abroad; 24 are Igbo, 5 are Yoruba.
Okey-Joe Onuakalusi is a Member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Oshodi-Isolo II—a predominantly Yoruba land indigenous to the Yoruba people. He sponsored 29 people from his constituency for empowerment programs abroad; 24 of the beneficiaries are Igbo and only 5 are Yoruba.
The empowerment program involves trips to China and South Africa to study courses such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, nursing, and diabetic care. After being reprimanded on social media for his alleged discrimination against the Yoruba people he is supposed to represent, Okey-Joe replied to his critics by saying, "Wazobia. Say no to tribalism. Okey-Joe is OK." He added, "A new Nigeria is POssible," indicating his political alliance with Peter Obi.
Okey-Joe was elected on the platform of the Labour Party in 2023. In response to this controversy, Yoruba people on social media have vowed to vote him out in the next election, which is set to take place in January 2027.

Our Visit to Oyo:
On May 9, 2025, a distinguished delegation of Itsekiri leaders and Warri chiefs, led by Chief Johnson Amatsereuleghe, the Iyasere of Warri Kingdom, paid a courtesy visit to the newly installed Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, at his palace in Oyo. The visit aimed to congratulate the Alaafin on his ascension as the 46th Alaafin and to reaffirm the deep historical and cultural and blood ties between the Itsekiri and Yoruba people.
The Alaafin warmly received the delegation, emphasizing the inseparable bond between the two groups. “We are bound by blood. What affects you affects the entire Yoruba people. We share the same ancestry, history, shared fears and aspirations. We must work together as one people, united by our origin and destiny.”
Oba Owoade declared, noting his personal connection to Warri from his National Youth Service Corps days. He reaffirmed that the Itsekiri are direct descendants of Oduduwa, urging greater unity and collaboration to foster peace, security, and prosperity across Yorubaland and beyond.
In his address, Chief Amatserunleghe conveyed greetings from the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, and described the visit as “symbolic and strategic,” aimed at fostering unity between the two ethnic groups.
He also addressed longstanding concerns about the political and economic marginalisation of the Itsekiri nation in Delta State, calling for renewed collaboration in the pursuit of equity and development.
Chief Johnson also stated that: “There is no ambiguity about our Yoruba origin,” he said. “It is evident in our language, our culture, and the stories handed down by our ancestors.”
The delegation included local officials and activists, among them Warri South Local Government Secretary, Emmanuel Nunu and representatives of the Warri Indigenous Peoples Movement (WIPM).

The bigotry we are seeing on Twitter today didn’t start today, and it wasn’t started by the Yorubas.
For 8 years, the Igbos were anti-Hausa/Fulani simply because a Fulani man from the North was president.
They attempted to do the same to the Yorubas because a Yoruba man is now president, only to be met with far greater resistance.
These are the same people who cry victimization while being the biggest bigots in Nigeria

Breaking: Oyo State Government convenes emergency meeting to address resurgence of banditry attack in Ogbomoso, Oke-Ogun, others
February 19, 2025
The Oyo State Government has expressed concern over the renewed cases of banditry and attacks in Ogbomoso, Oke-Ogun, and other areas of the state.
In response, the Government has convened a high-level security stakeholders' meeting to reassess and strengthen its strategies to combat crime effectively.
According to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, CP Fatai Owoseni, the meeting resolved to integrate community leaders and grassroots members into the security architecture to enhance intelligence gathering and cooperation with security agencies.
“This strategy would bridge the gap between state security operatives and local communities, fostering a collective effort to tackle insecurity," Owoseni explained.
The Governor's aide noted that despite the state's efforts to maintain security, recent reports have shown a resurgence of crime in Oyo Township, Ogbomoso, Oke-Ogun, and Ibarapa.
“We have always prided ourselves as one of the safest states in the country due to the collaborative efforts of security agencies and the resources provided by Governor Seyi Makinde," Owoseni said.
To address the situation, law enforcement agencies, in partnership with non-state actors such as local vigilante groups, Agbekoyas, hunters, OPC members, and Soluderos, have been mobilized to reinforce security across the affected areas.
The Governor-approved integrated security approach would be strengthened to ensure better synergy between formal security forces and local security outfits.
Owoseni assured the public that the government is taking proactive measures to prevent and respond to criminal activities.
“We want the people to know that we have what it takes to prevent all acts of criminality. And we also have what it takes to respond effectively," he said.
The Special Adviser urged citizens not to panic, stating that the Service Commanders in Oyo State are rejigging their strategy to strengthen their collaborative efforts.
“I want to use this opportunity to tell our people that there is no cause for alarm," Owoseni said.
