I urgently needed a debit card for use in daily transactions. The PalmPay PoS agent said he could help me.

I downloaded the PalmPay app, snapped my face and it auto-magically returned my name and BVN. I completed setup, entered my NIN and instantly unlocked 200k daily transaction and 500k balance limit. I loaded my traditional bank app to send 20k to the new account and, not only did my details popup but, the payment reflected instantly.

Then the PoS agent issued me a debit card right from his kiosk. He pressed a few buttons on his PoS machine and I received an OTP which he keyed in on his device.

I set my PIN, payed him 1k cash and walked away with a functional debit card.

Everything from account opening to card issuance took less than 10 minutes.

How long will traditional banks continue resist this new way of doing things?
