Gillian Anderson made a video for War Child about children in Sudan. Look at what her comments turned into. Hundreds of people, with pitchforks. Calling her a “zio” “heartless” and worse, for asking people to feed kids.
I’m not saying don’t talk about Gaza. Talk about Gaza. And it’s not a competition over whose suffering is worse. But Sudan is far worse, even if you believe Hamas, by every number there is.
150,000 to 400,000 dead. Thirteen million people out of their homes, five million of them children. 825,000 kids under five who will die this year without treatment. Famine officially declared. No ceasefire. The UN appeal is sixteen percent funded. And almost nobody is talking about it, and when someone finally does, this is what she gets. Sure, you can justify it to yourself with excuses like “I care about Gaza because America supports Israel” but if that’s your reason for caring, it’s a sad one.
If you have to check where the starving children are from before you decide whether to care and post it about, it stopped being about children a long time ago. It’s about you.
