Starship Flight 12: Engine Issues on V3 Debut
paceX Starship Flight 12: Don't miss these stunning photos from the launch of the most powerful Starship yet | Space
On its first flight as the V3 vehicle, Starship showed both strong engine-out capability and significant challenges with the new Raptor 3 engines.
The Super Heavy booster lost at least one engine during ascent. More critically, it only managed to light roughly 20 of its 33 engines during the boostback burn. As a result, the booster could not complete a controlled landing and ended with a hard splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Starship upper stage (Ship 39) also lost one of its six Raptor Vacuum engines during ascent. Despite this, it continued on trajectory, deployed its payloads, performed reentry, and achieved a controlled splashdown on two engines in the Indian Ocean.
This flight provided valuable data on how the new V3 hardware and Raptor 3 engines perform under real flight conditions, including when engines fail.

This is probably the most incredible example yet of FSD saving a life, and the amazing software that Tesla has developed that enabled Jack to remotely help his Dad's Model Y navigate to the hospital on FSD.

If I Ruled the World, I would instruct the presidents of every media outlet to air this video in prime time. I would instruct every professor in every university to show it in every class. And then, I would freeze every social media account, until the owners of said accounts watched this seven minute public service announcement in its entirety. However, because I don't rule the world, and because I don't really harbor authoritarian tendencies, (I think,) I can only share the wisdom of Mr. Hudson on my personal page and encourage you to do the same. And invite him onto my podcast, at his convenience.
