We wrapped up the Functional Genomics Workshop yesterday. Students learned about diagnostic markers and eQTL and completed GWAS, TWAS, and Mendelian Randomization exercises with Dr. Jason Zurn. Thanks to Dr. Evgenii Liakh for the technical support in the computer labs. @eakhunov
At the Functional Genomics Workshop, the focus has shifted to data-analysis with hands-on computer labs. Students learned how to conduct RNA-seq data analysis, detect introgression break points, and query practical haplotype graphs with Eduard Akhunov. @eakhunov
After learning about DNA sequencing technologies, students toured the KSU Integrated Genomics Facility. Thanks to Mayela Flores for the demonstration! @eakhunov
Students are busy preparing RNA-seq libraries with Dr. Alina Akhunova, Samatha Elledge, and Jose Ruiz Ortiz from the KSU Integrated Genomics Facility. @eakhunov
Dr. Dal-Hoe Koo and Yoonha Ju led a cytogenetics lab yesterday where students prepared slides and conducted GISH to identify wild wheat introgressions via microscopy.
WheatCAP students are at KSU for a Functional Genomics Workshop. They kicked off the workshop yesterday with tours of the Kansas Wheat Innovation Center and Wheat Genetics Resource Center, a testament to the investment KS farmers make in the future of wheat breeding and genetics.
Don't miss the latest publication by WheatCAP student Pabitra Joshi from the University of Idaho: “An Optimal Model to Improve Genomic Prediction for Protein Content and Test Weight in a Diverse Spring Wheat Panel”. 🌾📖#PlantBreeding#Genomics https://t.co/J0RZBdqQbp
Big congrats to Dalton Jones on successfully defending his MS thesis: “Using High-throughput Phenotyping in Early Generation Breeding Lines to Indirectly Select for Grain Yield”. 👏Thanks to Dr. Margaret Krause for her guidance! @dalton_jon67
Congratulations to WheatCAP student Andy Herr on earning his PhD in Molecular Plant Sciences! 🔬🎓His dissertation, "Applications of UAS Imagery in Wheat Breeding" is a testament to his hard work under Dr. Arron Carter's guidance. @AW_Herr@WSUSmallGrains#wheat
