Many of us pass Ọba Akran Avenue without knowing who Akran was — an Ogu king, a minister, a first-class traditional ruler who helped build the very western region we call ‘Yorubaland’ today.
While the Yoruba are a dominant force in the southwest of Nigeria, the area is also the cultural homeland of the Ogu people, a distinct ethno-linguistic group with its own rich history, language, and traditions.
We need to ask ourselves, 'if southeastern Benin Republic... are not exclusively labelled Fonland or Oguland despite Benin's predominant Fon/Ogu populations, how then can southwest Nigeria be Yorubaland?'

'Southwestern Nigeria' and 'Yorubaland' are not the same thing — and conflating them isn't just historically wrong, it has real consequences for who gets resources, recognition and political power today.
This essay is uncomfortable, necessary and overdue. Read here:

@niyiakinmolayan@Sci_in_Yoruba Well, yes, but I think it is essentially an INDIGENOUS concept relating to travel and mobility that every Yoruba person can easily and readily understand or relate to.
@niyiakinmolayan@Sci_in_Yoruba I think Egbé is the Yorùbá traditional conception of "teleportation". So, Egbédẹ̀rọ maps modern-day techno-science onto a deeply traditional idea.
That is, teleportation machine.
@LekanQuadri_@sesiseun @MartinsAdedeji3 @Mautiin01 Me I don talk am as I see am. Time will come when we go torchlight how many billions Sesi sef dey “WALK AWAY WITH EVERY MONTH”. When that time comes, I go remind una.
There is a saying about those who live in glass houses …
@sesiseun@LekanQuadri_ @MartinsAdedeji3 @Mautiin01 I do honestly feel that @sesiseun could have typed something a lot better than this if he allowed the anger he felt on seeing the mentions to settle a bit! Seems to me that the bile beneath this comment is more graphic than even the attached video!

@StartArchiving I saw this image on someone’s page earlier and they did not even add any acknowledgement, but I immediately felt convinced that it must be from @StartArchiving. It’s the only platform I know that digitises this perfectly!
Thank you very much indeed for the invitation. I had a great time experiencing Zurich. And I do really appreciate the constructive engagements and feedback that I received from your vibrant scholarly community! Thank you again!
@waliualao This right here is a dimwit and a scumbag! The interviewer should have pulled an "Oga At The Top" moment on him by asking him the meaning OF NYSC, because It's clear he doesn't even k ow that.
@kolatubosun@egbeatelewo@YorubaHistory Also, I have not seen a photo of him on the covers of any of his publications, even the recent reprints/editions!
Is there anyone who has photos of the eminent #Yoruba writer & educator JOSEPH FỌLÁHÀN “J.F.” ỌDÚNJỌ?
There are photos of his contemporaries like DANIEL ỌLỌ́RUNFẸ́MI “D.O.” FÁGÚNWÀ and ISAAC BABALỌLÁ “I.B.” THOMAS on the internet, but I can’t find any of #Odunjo's!
@kolatubosun@egbeatelewo@YorubaHistory Interesting. Thank you!
But this comes to me like a hand-drawn image. But we actually have camera-produced images of many of his contemporaries everywhere on the internet.
