Raising awareness on climate's impact to Alabama's biodiversity! This is for my W60 course @UCIrvine. #BioDiverseAL
CO2 levels in my birth year (2003): 375ppm
The State of Alabama, despite being ranked in the top five most biodiverse states of the U.S, lacks the legislative framework to protect our shores and our environment. Alabama is not a part of any climate alliances, nor does it have any carbon-curbing goals. This must change!
Did you know that protecting and revitalizing blue carbon ecosystems, particularly seagrass meadows, can prevent up to 650 million tons of carbon emissions annually? All the more reason to save these vital environments! #BiodiverseAL#BlueCarbon#BlueCarbonEcosystems
All in all, we need to band together to protect these blue carbon sites. Better regulations could be key to protecting our coastlines, and to protecting our world as a whole.

Let's talk about Blue Carbon stores, their ups and downs, and how they can actually help save the planet!
- Blue carbon stores (Mangroves, Sea Grasses, Tidal Marshes, etc.) can actually hold up to 50x more atmospheric carbon than forests, making them a primary sink for carbon!
- Blue Carbon sites are natural alternatives to solutions meant to deter climate change. As vegetation grows, and as it absorbs this excess in CO2, the ecosystem strengthens, helping to prevent shoreline erosion.
Blue carbon solutions have already been implemented and monitored in Australia, Singapore, and Indonesia. The rest of us should try it out as well!

Take a look at this: The Blue Carbon Initiative!
Blue carbon, CO2 that has been absorbed by the oceans and coastal vegetation (i.e. Mangroves, Tidal Marshes, Sea Grasses), can actually be the world's solution to fighting climate change!
I found a really interesting publication documenting nature-based solutions to combat the impacts of climate change! The living shorelines case-study was rather interesting. #W60Sustain#SaveAlabama

The State of Alabama is not a part of the U.S. Climate Alliance and lacks carbon-curbing targets. The state also lacks a Climate Action Plan. Shocking, considering the state is on the frontline when it comes to climate issues! #W60Sustain#BioDiverseAL

(5/5) - wetlands, endangered species, and nesting grounds. Whole ecosystems are under threat from climate change. Alabama is a highly unique state when it comes to natural heritage and biodiversity. We need to rise up and strive to protect Alabama's ecosystems! #BiodiverseAL
(1/5) #W60Sustain#CPAnalysis
Today, Alabama stands at the front of the line when it comes to climate change and global warming. High-intensity weather events, like hurricanes, ravage the state, causing great harm to its people, its environment, and its ecosystems.
(4/5) Climate change causes a wide array of issues for Alabama, such as: sea-level rise and flooding, worsening extreme weather events, and droughts in the northern regions of the state. All of these climate issues cause irreparable harm to critical habitats, sanctuaries, -
Take a look at this article found on @americanrivers website! Alabama's rivers, and rivers found all over the United States, need to be protected from the impacts of climate change. #BiodiverseAL https://t.co/92pI8mQmsN
I found this really interesting research essay that covers how sea-level rise science has changed and evolved over the past couple of decades. Take a look! https://t.co/8qXP52R6ob
Take a look at this interesting academic paper! I find it really fascinating to see how our marshlands adapt to sea level rise. https://t.co/nP7oXDg9WD
