shitposts aside, it's just a little sad what has happened here with the whole kimchi situation as a cherry on top of a larger cultural degredation under @Pumpfun
i have had my issues with pumpfun for a long time: the rampant, low cost, low complexity, low friction one stop deploying shop, whilst perhaps inevitable, to be an anathema to the underlying precepts of crypto. it took everything that made crypto cool, interesting and alluring and turned it into a hyper expansive slop space.
that being said, pumpfun should always get credit for creating a moat which has, for the large majority of the past 2 years, made them somewhat untouchable when it comes to onchain launches. when bonkfun came along last year and started criming utter garbage, with solporntom and bonkguy shilling soulless, vapid nonsense, i was an advocate of the 'culture' that pumpfun had been able to incubate and champion on their platform.
we had the glass full foundation, we had large marketcap memecoins, we had both @a1lon9 and the pumpfun team at large highlighting communities building out onchain, putting money into and behind memecoins that actually attempted to build a brand, a concept or a funny idea. did i like all the memes they pushed? no, but who cares, everyone has their own taste and perspective, but pumpfun were genuinely the 'cool' launchpad, with an established, definable cultural rampart which set them apart from the rest.
i remember alon was even interacting with these communities on a personal level, hopping into group chats, replying to x accounts regularly - there was a genuine excitement about memecoins in this sector on solana, despite the crest of the memecoin wave very much having been broken by trump earlier in the year.
now look, i understand that pumpfun is a business and they both desire and need to expand their reach, continue evolving and serve new prospective customers. but what i want to understand is how is the current climate that they have incubated in pivoting away from communities, and into highly leveraged speculation on attention serving or benefitting customer retention? if every single coin has a single pump and dumps to zero with no chance of a second reincarnation, where is the incentive for people to stay and keep playing?
people do not enter crypto because they want to make a lil piece of money on the side, they are trying to change their living conditions significantly. this doesn't NEED to be a reskin of stake, where everyone goes into it knowing implicitly they're going to lose over time, where the sellers of shovels are villainised as rapacious extractors.
there's actually no cultural or business-based exceptionalism to this approach, and there is plenty of money to be made in concentrating the winners. otherwise why would somebody feel the need to stare at a black and green chart for hours to get a dopamine hit, when they can go and play a slot with all the bells and whistles that it comes with, or hit up a casino with the boys and spin a roulette wheel?
the $kimchi disaster class reflects a loss of perspective for pumpfun in my opinion, an attempt to shift the needle so dramatically towards 'anticipating what a new audience might want', that it just throws the whole recipe off-kilter.
my father used to preach a simple axiom to me: keep it simple, stupid. foster an environment wherein normal people can win, and they will become your biggest advocates to bring other people onchain to try and win big too. playing crash games on one day narratives, and glorifying scammers alienates your customer base long term.
@justcallmeema@basilda_a hold times have compressed. the bottom line is baton is still a 7 figs marketcap coin after launching more than a month ago, in the current state of things that pushes it out of the 1 day trend coin lol
@basilda_a that's precisely why I'm saying that it's in pumpfuns interest to incubate success stories from long term communities, and they themselves can reshape the trajectory of trader interest.
yes which is commendable and I agree with, but if you believe that the market participants don't want to trade longer term community coins, then it makes zero sense to back and put all your money into one.
it sounds like you are saying one thing and doing another. I hold coins over longer time frames because I believe most traders fundamentally want to win bigger holding something that matters, but that pumpfun are manipulating people into a different kind of trade!
@0xprimdotfun tbh i don't even give a fuck about the airdrop, it would be pennies anyways given the volume dispersal across wallets. it's the culture and fundamentals that are in dire need of fixing.
people in my replies saying 'stop being so negative, be constructive, what would you change' etc etc, so to summarise things I've said across many different tweets over a very long time:
1) structural changes to bonding curves and liquidity post bond to fix the paper thin liquidity on coins deployed into pumpswap pools.
2) meaningful support from top brass on long-lasting, culturally important memecoin communities, both through comms and capital invested into (see glass full foundation, an initiative they abandoned as soon as they started it) to promote sustainable narratives. deeper liquidity would also prop up these coins to absorb volatility and not be subsumed by the diddy spiral, to borrow a term.
3) the severing of ties to extractive KOLs and serial deployers through their retainer scheme and those given pumpfun badges
4) reworking of callout payment scheme to stop funding KOLs who abuse it on incredibly short median hold times) - callout payments should be big for those who buy early, shill to an audience, and then hold it long term as it appreciates in value over longer timeframes.
these are just a few of the meaningful changes in approach that would seriously help a positive pivot imo. the liquidity issue is the most egregious, and has been from the jump since they migrated away from raydium pools.
@encigr also I think his 'aura' and influence is massively overstated, and he has neither the cultural capital nor influence onchain that ansem had when he took over his bundled shitter during the summer.
I can see why you might take this purely as a trade tbh, but I am not sure the rr is there as the thesis for the trade is just kimchi shilling it.
the whole situation is such a mess here that I'm not sure he's going to push it, given that the coins already taken so much flak and is down horrendous.
I think the coin is gay but I don't see any issue with you taking the trade at all. everyone is heated af, but a trade is a trade, it's not like you're gonna become a bagworker for the coin (I would assume) lol.
then why are you pushing $baton, given it's an organic community coin, as you put it?
it's at the same market cap that it was 20 days ago, it's not a trend coin anymore, it's a slow community coin.
why aren't you just shilling 1 day pnds and shilling to your audience and selling at the peak?
