@V1Z31@mrlinkwii No they earned an md but they didn’t practice medicine if they didn’t do a residency and aren’t licensed. Also this isn’t difference in opinion he said factually wrong statements. Like a doctor telling you to drink bleach, like just wrong.
@plebiansdotnet@mrlinkwii He has a bachelors in CS, not SWE, although I know you don't know the difference. By claiming "expertise", he is implying that he is an expert (because EXPERTS hold expertise, crazy right?)
@V1Z31@mrlinkwii If someone graduated from medical school with no residency or licensing and then started making youtube videos, and in their off time went to twitter and said laughably incorrect claims about medicine, would you questions whether they should call themselves a doctor?
@plebiansdotnet@mrlinkwii He actually said he had "expertise" in this thread so he did call himself an expert. Consider reading. Even if he didn't claim to be an expert he acts like he's one. He's not just not an expert he fails to understand basic concepts in his video.
@V1Z31@mrlinkwii You can't legally practice medicine without residency and passing your licensing exam. Theres a reason doctors have to do residency because real world experience matters. Can you call yourself a physician if you have never had a patient?
@mrlinkwii My point was never about getting paid, thats just the most common way to get experience. Of course FOSS developers who engineer real system are engineers. Williams has never done that. His experience stopped at classroom projects, but he is claiming that he's an expert.
@mrlinkwii You're arguing over semantics. My point is that he doesn't know what he's talking about because he has not real world experience as an engineer and doesn't understand how little he knows.
@mrlinkwii Writing code is only about half of engineering. Do you seriously think that someone that commits a "hello world" python program is a software engineer? In every discipline an engineer is someone who works on real world problems. That is what separates them from hobbyists.
@mrlinkwii Just because a title isn't protected doesn't mean it has no meaning. When someone calls themselves a software engineer they mean that they are an industry professional, not a hobbyist. Williams is claiming to have expertise, I am pointing out the he's not an expert.
@JadenJTW@nuancedresearch@FurbyPerson Not sure why you want to LARP as a software engineer when you are a highly successful content creator. That is 100x more impressive than having a desk job.
@JadenJTW@nuancedresearch@FurbyPerson Good for you, you're obviously killing it. Unfortunately when it comes to claiming to be a software engineer, it takes more than a degree that you never used. There one thing in having an interest in a field and another thing claiming that you have "expertise" when you don't.
@JadenJTW@nuancedresearch@FurbyPerson I'm just going off your linkedin, is there anything missing from there? You don't list any industry experience you just have a degree.
@ashlander0609@startkyIeorton I understand you probably are trying to fight against Eurocentric history which is fair. But your claims are not historically defensible. Nanda and the Chinese kingdom did accomplish legitimately incredible feats. Alexander conquered the world’s superpower. Both can be true.
