Everyone should understand that a $1200 fursuit doesn’t translate to 1200 in profit. Makers don’t pocket the entire amount, we have to buy materials(and also account for equipment wear & tear), pay taxes and utilities. On top of that we don’t have health insurance, retirement, paid sick leave and vacations. If you get sick/injured/or something else bad happens in life, you’re dealing with it on your own.
Fursuit market is oversaturated, and it really corrupted people’s expectations about prices and quality. I genuinely regret underpricing my work. Sometimes when I needed money I used to make heads for only 500-800 dollars, and now I see all these people talking shit behind my back that their suit doesn’t look like their character or uncomfortable. If you decide to make cheaper suits, YOU HAVE TO CUT CORNERS SOMEWHERE. In my case it was appearance and accuracy to the character. They may not look the best, but my fursuits are made to last. I always sew everywhere I can avoid using glue. My style is very consistent, so you can always tell what you gonna get.

Even fursuits from name brand makers that charge $5k for just a head have flaws, because they are made by humans, not machines. Don’t forget that I don’t just need to cover the material cost, but also have some money left for myself.

Scary stuff.
What’s really scary, is that “Fursonafy” is far from the only Fursuit making “Business” that pulls this sort of sketchy stuff. This was my fear with Furries going main stream. The wrong people catch wind of how much money can be made by crafting fursuits. These people hire crafters to use as assembly line sweat shop workers. Paying their artists Pennys to whip out Full costumes daily. These people typically have nothing to do with the fandom. They just see it as a quick cash grab. It’s sad, and honestly quite scary for our fandom.
