@Bill_Linnane We shouldn't be telling people what to drink (either higher or lower strength) but the important thing is that it takes literally a second to reduce proof but most aren't set up to redistill at home to increase it.

I still praise Ardbeg’s core 10yo, Corry & Oogie, love them. But can anyone remember the last time they really enjoyed a special release? Do we need to go back to Dark Cove? Is it because they’re already committed, ready or not? £120 hurts too. Love the distillery but…

@KiltedDrammer Yes all subjective and relative too. That's just the nature of something that only exists to be tasted. What I had in mind for quality was ABV and presentation. If it's bottled at 40-43% that often automatically puts a low cap on its value to me. Although that too is subjective

@KiltedDrammer ...it's hard to define the 'value point' for me. But I do feel that there is a set figure depending on age and quality. A fixed limit on what a 'bottle of drink' can be worth and still offer value regardless of marketing, scarcity and brand hype.

@KiltedDrammer I don't agree with 'what they can get away with' as being the correct price. Or even what I can afford. I think I judge largely based on what was good value before. Many (perhaps even most) brands seem to be charging over that for aged stuff now. Even adjusted for inflation 😕...

@jeffwhisky24 I found an order I placed with Whisky Exchange in 2013 with a bottle of Lag16 for £43. Adjusted for inflation, according to Bank of England, today would be....... £55.... 😒... I think you're onto something.

@thedramble @IndriSingleMalt Really great article. I sometimes suspect large companies of trying to do away with the middle. That mix of quality and value is an inconvenience that hurts their efforts to sell less for more. Agree that infinite growth is unsustainable. Hoping there wont be too many casualties!
