Whitby Swifts

A few locals trying to help the Swifts of Whitby & District.

[Cavity Nests - Finding Nature a Home @cavitynest]

Our message is simple . . . for every new house built in the UK we'd like to see a new home offered for a cavity nesting bird.

Do you agree with our aim? If so please help us spread our message . . .

Dear Barratt, We've been asking for months if you'll install these in your #Whitby Prospect Rise Development, without even a courteous reply. Please put your money where your mouth is. #swift @Natures_Voice

Installing swift nesting bricks is just one of the ways we are committed to giving nature a home on our developments. #SwiftAwarenessWeek @Natures_Voice

Very bizarre to have had a proper screaming fly past of two #swifts yesterday morning. Surely they should be well south by now. Guess the hot weather has kept them about.

What a surprise to see two Swifts over Whitby this morning. In over 20 yrs of obvs, I've never seen them this late. #swiftmigration

Lots of Swift activity, but only at Dusk - Youngsters must have fledged. Bit sad to think they'll be gone vv soon.

Pair of #swifts nest prospecting in #Whitby today.

[Swift Awareness Week @swiftsweek]

Starts Saturday! Help us "Save the Sound of Summer" & attend your Local Event. Swifts are disappearing fast, lets not lose the most amazing aerial acrobats from our skies...@SaveourSwifts @Natures_Voice @MarkAvery @ChrisGPackham Awareness Week 2019 - https://t.co/PGeAlMCOJK …

Found and secured two new #swift nests today on #FishburnPark, very close to old nest sites. The screeching fly pasts were a bit of a give away.

@bandbswifts Thanks. Been quietly trying to help them for years, but only now going public with it. EG have got planners on board at @ScarboroCouncil , with new bricks going in #whitbyhospital development.

[Whitby Swifts @WhitbySwifts]

New #swift nest box went up yesterday, replacing a hole where they have nested for over 10 years. Hope they like it.

@JonathanMPomroy @HelmsleySwifts Same here, but oddly they've still been flying. Lots of them high in the skies last night just before dark.

Good number of Swifts spotted In #Hinderwell & #Staithes the other day.

Swift at dusk last night.

At last, the first #swifts arrived back in #whitby this morning. 4 of them spotted flying high over Fishburn Park.

[Whitby Swifts @WhitbySwifts]

No signs of any Swifts here yet, which is hardly surprising given the strong Northerly winds and rain. #swift
