A4: The most important things a consumer movement for change can do is 1) demand transparency, 2) hold companies accountable to promises, and 3) raise awareness about where their own dollars are going and be an advocate for companies doing good.
#GlobalPeople
Q4: We believe there is a lot of #power in socially conscious #consumerism.
Do you think consumers and buyers have a role in keeping businesses and companies accountable to ethics?
If yes, why? If no, why not?
Answer using A4 & #GlobalPeople
A3: It's easy to take small steps forward but it's also just as easy to fall back into bad practices. Sustained progress gets more difficult as improvements get more complex. Consumers have a big role here to make sure companies know they will hold them accountable.
#GlobalPeople
Q3: There is global concern that companies and businesses are not doing enough to reduce their damage on the #environment and forced #labor.
Do you agree? Tell us why or why not.
Answer using A3 and #GlobalPeople
5) Organize an advisory board of your customers especially if you're targeting underserved communities.
6) Even if you aren't a benefit corporation, take your business through the B Lab impact assessment tool, to examine the impact your business has.
#GlobalPeople (3/3)
A2: We have a bunch of opinions on this!
1) Pay transparency: This has been shown to play a big part in closing the wage gap.
2) Volunteer: give employees opportunities (time off, organized projects, etc) to give back to their community.
#GlobalPeople (1/3)
3) Carbon footprint: Does your office recycle? Do you have plastic or styrofoam dishware in your kitchen? Are you using plastic k-cups? At scale, all big things that can impact the environment.
4) Supply chains: Who does your company do business with?
#GlobalPeople (2/3)
A1: Shout-out to the @IWMF which supports women in media and helps women tell unique stories around the world.
Another shout-out to @NewsLitProject, which is helping educate students (and adults) in news literacy best practices.
Let’s start with positive shoutouts!
Q1: Global #philanthropy and charitable giving help to fill the $2.5 trillion investment gap to achieve #SDGs.
Tell us your favorite #foundations and philanthropies!
Please remember to use A1 & #GlobalPeople to join the conversation!
Do you think businesses and companies have a role to play in social and economic development? We’ll be talking about that Friday, Aug. 31 at 11am EST/3pm GMT for our next #GlobalPeople Twitter chat!
A8: We think the ideas to solve the #SDGs are out there, but they need a community and support to become real. Telling the stories of people who don't always get the attention or funding is the key. Luckily, there are so many platforms for storytelling now! #GlobalPeople
Today's answers have been so fantastic. Here is one last question!
Q8: We believe technology drives social change by breaking barriers, creating spaces for people to meet and exchange ideas, and connecting people.
How can #tech be used to solve the #SDGs and inspire #action?
A7: Developers with #AR or #VR skills can give back with their time: go to schools or community groups and teach! We have seen developers in Utah organize to teach refugee kids coding skills, and including visual skills can open up storytelling opportunities. #GlobalPeople
Keep the answers to all questions coming!
Q7: Augmented reality (#AR) and virtual reality (#VR) have become a central focus of #mobile#innovation. How can #tech companies make these tools more accessible to people and organizations?
Answer using A7 and #GlobalPeople
A6: Innovations into schools is vital, especially when the goal is to teach children how to experiment & create. Those skills will be more important in future jobs than ever before.
+ If we make sure girls are involved at a young age, we can address gender gaps! #GlobalPeople
Let's talk about #tech and #education!
Q6: #Technology and changes in society demand #innovation in #education. While many #schools face challenges such as underfunding and outdated curriculums, innovation offers a path forward. Do you agree?
Answer using A6 & #GlobalPeople
A4: In humanitarian response, sometimes the best innovations don't reinvent the wheel - they come up with creative new ways of using existing tech to solve tough problems. Example: using mobile data for ultrasounds in remote areas, transmitting images to doctors. #GlobalPeople
Q4: The 2016 @UN Secretary General’s Agenda for Humanity says to "deliver collective outcomes the #humanitarian sector must promote a strong focus on #innovation.” How does #innovation play an important role in #development & humanitarian response?
Answer using A4! #GlobalPeople
Wow. This is an incredible point, @WhiteHatMag. When internet access is cut from communities, we don't just put lack of information at risk: we also put human lives in danger. #GlobalPeople
For more information about how internet shutdowns and human rights violations go hand-in-hand, read our feature from our Spring 2018 edition: https://t.co/f8Fr5U1vBw
A3: When internet access is intentionally shut down, very often human rights abuses follow behind. Expanding internet access means giving people tools to bring attention to things happening in their communities, and to organize/fight for justice.
#GlobalPeople#ReimagineHumanity
As of June 2017, only 51% of the world's population has internet access. Which leads us to...
Q3: Why do you think access to the #internet is important?
Answer using A3 and #GlobalPeople! #tech#tech4good#innovation
Access to the internet is a human right. All people deserve the same access to information, opportunities and communication. The Internet is a platform for global citizenship. #GlobalPeople
