Veterinary medicine is not one specialty — it’s a vertical from farm and field to operating room, imaging and laboratory diagnostics.
This diversity is what makes the profession unique.
My life as a vet. 🩺🐾❤️🩹
„New Year’s Eve emergency.”
Severe equine carpal degloving/laceration with massive soft tissue disruption and high risk of synovial contamination.
4 months later: functional healing, no septic synovitis, minimal scar formation.

Polydactyly in a chicken
Congenital digital anomaly characterized by the presence of supernumerary digits.
In this case the left limb has 6 toes (normal: 4).
Radiography confirms the presence of additional phalanges.
Incidental finding.
Acute purulent parotid abscess in a pony. Severe swelling, large subcutaneous pus accumulation.
Wide surgical drainage + lavage.
Empirical cefquinome + metronidazole.
Culture & susceptibility submitted.
Sometimes the job is simple:
Open. Drain. Lavage. Monitor.

Today’s curiosity in the clinic 🐔
A backyard hen presented with a dorsal wound (likely pecking/rooster trauma related) and mild ectoparasite infestation.
Local wound management, parasite control, and environmental treatment were initiated.🩺❤️🩹

Parasite of the day 🔬
Young foal with Werneckiella (Bovicola) equi infestation.
Ectoparasites confirmed morphologically; treated with deltamethrin pour-on. 🐎
Never forget about the ectoparasites!

Traumatic laceration at the base of the ear – field case. 🩸🐴
Primary wound closure was performed to improve healing, reduce contamination and prevent excessive granulation
Clinical decisions balanced surgical outcome, infection control and competition safety.

Tick dermatitis observed in a horse despite winter conditions.❄️🐴
This case highlights that tick activity may persist in sheltered microhabitats even during the cold season, with relevance for dermatologic lesions and vector-borne disease risk.

A large hematoma on the caudal aspect of the left thigh in a horse, caused by a previous kick injury.🩸
The hematoma was opened at its most distal point, allowing a significant amount of serous, partially clotted fluid to drain. 🐎🩺

Vertical nystagmus observed in a goat during recovery from general anesthesia. Likely ketamine-associated effect on the vestibular system. Transient and self-limiting, but important to recognize to avoid misinterpretation as central neurological disease

Today I performed emergency surgery on a goat that had been attacked by dogs.
The cervical region had deep bite wounds with extensive soft-tissue damage and a high risk of infection.
The patient is currently stable, and follow-up care is ongoing.
Identify Dirofilaria species is essential in clinical practice. 🪱
D. immitis → serious cardiopulmonary disease requiring adulticide therapy.
D. repens → subcutaneous form, often mild but zoonotic.
Fortunately, we have on-site PCR for fast diagnosis. 🐶🧬

🐴 Today I placed my first subpalpebral lavage (SPL) system.
A severe corneal ulcer needed intensive treatment, and an SPL allows precise, frequent medication without stressing the horse.
Huge milestone for me — and the patient was an absolute angel. 💛
