Lastly, I plea that we don't demonize the whole police institution, it is deeply flawed but we need the support of officers who accept these flaws and are willing to help in drafting& implementing changes moving forward bc after all, we can't succeed by doing things unilaterally
Sorry in advance if my tweets trigger the fragility of the privileged
In the midst of our disappointment over the inhumane incident involving a police officer killing innocent civilians, I hope that we could channel our frustrations on efforts to do things that should be done
5 - I don't condone the behavior of the daughter but we have to focus on the bigger picture on how we can improve the country's policing than focusing on scapegoating the child who still has the chance to live a better life and hopefully show her dad that we humans can do better
4 - we have to fundamentally rethink the way we treat these incidents, it is cowardly to say that this is an outlier not only because there are similar reports but because it sends a complacent signal to the rest of the police institution and it covers the roots of this behavior.
3 - we need to advocate for changing the way we train our law enforcers, we need to have officers who have routine sensitivity and non-aggression training in order to gradually remove this notion in police culture that prioroitizes the use of brute force
2 - let us be firm in advocating the use of body cams for police officers in order to ensure that there is an adequate way for us to make them accountable should they breach the limits of their power as officers.
Remember : With great power comes great responsibility
Firstly, we need to actively call out this action and continue to do so until we ensure that there is legal and administrative accountability for the police officer. We should also remain vigilant of the possible special treatment that could br unjustly afforded.
