I do not trust the morality or judgement of anyone who earnestly studies the acts and sayings of Jesus and arrives at a Christ who wants us to collect tithes from the poor and invest the surplus in stocks and real estate.
@RealTomTomeny @stackerco Using Morris as a case study for ostensible superiority is particularly problematic, as Mormonism has had abuse scandal after abuse scandal in its lower and middle management, yet continues to lobby and argue in court for broad religious exemptions from mandatory reporting.
@RealTomTomeny @stackerco Your point here would be stronger if the church held its leadership accountable.
There’s an alternate timeline, for example, where members were so outraged by the church falsifying financial disclosures that the presiding bishop resigned and the church moved toward transparency.
@twisterqueen831@Jenn_NextDoor (In contrast, DHO was an editor for Dialogue and knows where the bodies are buried. I have a harder time not seeing him as deliberately distorting reality).
@twisterqueen831@Jenn_NextDoor As always with the brethren, I can’t decide if he actually has manipulative intent or he’s just a storyteller whose gradual embellishment works its way into his own recall and reveals his inflated self importance.
With RMN and Wendy I favor the latter, based mostly on vibes.
@joshnaa2gez Indeed.
Scripture and documented revelation gives zero basis for preserving “temporary commandments” re. homosexuality while abandoning kosher, mixed fabrics, etc. etc.
From an objective view, it seems the only real standard is commandments we like vs. commandments we don’t.
@DennisBowden18@AreYouEstyWhy You cannot excuse their obvious frequent mistakes while also claiming they cannot lead you astray.
You don’t get to say ‘of course they are men of their time and often wrong’ while also teaching that we cannot criticize, correct or agitate for improvement.
@DennisBowden18@AreYouEstyWhy Every positive change is an acknowledgment that the church could have been more ethical all along and was not.
This would be understandable if they did not pretend to be more than ordinary, flawed men serving the interests of themselves and their organization.
@StallionCornell The heart of the Christian Nationalist movement is turning policy disagreements into an existential battle between good and evil.
In their minds, this is equivalent to “you worship the antichrist.”
@cjdog_2024 @Jenn_NextDoor I could accept this as an excuse if the church trained, rehabilitated or if necessary replaced abusive leaders.
Far more often the leadership chain will protect and promote asses like him and signal to members they are to line up behind their priesthood leaders in disputes. 👎
Debate cocktail: the Blue Wave
2 parts coconut rum
1 part blue curaçao
2 parts seltzer (to represent the vapid gas that 45 is spewing)
2 drops orange bitters

@tautavelman @Tracy42786165 “We don’t practice shunning” (but we aren’t interested in fraternizing with apostates).
They fear catching the doubt virus.
Regardless of the questionable test result, the Khalif controversy demonstrates fundamentalists saying “stick with gender assigned at birth” is insincere.
They want to punish anyone not conforming to antiquated gender roles for simply existing.
