I’ve been dreaming of this moment since I was an age-group swimmer!
The sheer speed and electric performances of swimming capture Americans’ attention every four years at the Olympics. Now, it’s time to shine a light on the underwater specialists in the college arena.
Honored to be at the inaugural College Swimming League match at FMC Natatorium in Westmont, Illinois, streaming on ESPN platforms.
Here are David Braun’s game week notes ahead of Northwestern’s final game on the glistening shores of Lake Michigan against the Colorado Buffaloes, via @whitleyw01.

Northwestern head coach David Braun spoke about FSU transfer Gavin Sawchuk’s addition to the Wildcats’ three-headed RB room.
“It’s not like one guy’s just better in the pass game or one’s better in protection. All three of them can do it all.
“But Gavin is so versatile in the run game, with his understanding of the nuances of the game. He’s a threat out of the backfield in the passing game, and he was voted our special teams player of the week.”
Northwestern head coach David Braun was asked what impressed him most about Aidan Chiles’ performance vs. South Dakota State after watching the film.
“I was impressed with his composure. Obviously, we got off to a fast start. He did a good job of making sound decisions, checking the ball down. A couple big plays to both Caleb and Joe.
“The thing that’s exciting about Aidan, Coach Kelly and Coach Neuheisel is they all came back, watched the tape and knew there’s room for a ton of improvement.”
I asked Northwestern head coach David Braun if the Wildcats feel confident stopping a violent, run-first attack in the go-go offense.
Braun emphasized NU’s defensive identity:
“You know, that’s something we pride ourselves on week in and week out. It’s part of our formula on defense. I mean, if you ask Tim McGarley, like, priority number one every single week, you know, he’s going to talk about TNT. You know, it’s tackling and creating turnovers.”
Northwestern head coach David Braun had high praise for Coach Prime and the Buffs.
“Two new coordinators that are doing an outstanding job.”
“They’re effectively and efficiently, explosively running the football with some really good backs. Their quarterback is very talented.”
Northwestern Wildcats Director of Swimming & Diving Rachel Stratton-Mills is entering her 4th season with most talented group since the prime Matt Grevers era.
