The shelter manager stopped us right before we walked into the kennel area and said quietly, “If you take the male out for a walk, don’t shut the door on the female. She’ll panic and could hurt herself trying to reach him.” We had arrived planning to adopt just one dog. Our farmhouse has a large yard, but we also have a budget to think about. Then we saw them — two massive, long-haired German Shepherds pressed tightly together in a small kennel. Their names at the shelter were Rex and Luna. A volunteer gently shared their story. They had already been returned twice, not because they were aggressive — in fact, they were incredibly gentle and affectionate. The real issue was how strongly they were attached to each other. If one of them left the room, the other would cry and panic as if something terrible had happened. The shelter was running out of space and had started discussing the possibility of separating them permanently to make adoption easier… even though everyone knew it would devastate them. I stood there watching Rex carefully place his large chin across Luna’s back. Both dogs were shaking slightly, aware that people were studying them and deciding they were simply “too much.” My husband looked at me, then back at the two nervous dogs clinging to each other. He didn’t ask about the cost. He didn’t hesitate. He just walked over to the wall and picked up two leashes. “We’re not the kind of people who split up a family,” he said. So now our house is a little more chaotic. Our vet bills doubled, our bed barely belongs to us anymore, and 140 pounds of fluffy German Shepherds somehow manage to take up every inch of space. But honestly? Bringing both of them home turned out to be the best decision we never planned to make. If you want to see what Rex and Luna look like today — safe, inseparable, and finally living the life they always deserved
Stella arrived at Pinecrest Animal Rescue in Flagstaff, Arizona seven weeks ago. Pregnant and severely underweight. Found wandering near a highway rest stop. No chip. No owner ever came forward. Stella gave birth five days after arriving. Three puppies. All healthy. For three weeks she was a devoted mother. Then Stella developed a serious infection and needed immediate treatment. The puppies went to a foster home. Stella stayed for medical care. For seven weeks she paced her kennel. Barely ate. Staff said she checked the door every morning. Yesterday the puppies came back. The moment they tumbled out of that crate, Stella came completely alive. Shelter director said: "She was fading without them. The second those puppies walked in, she was back." They will be adopted together. No exceptions. Some bonds don't need a reason to hold. They just do.

THIS IS WHY WE FIGHT… AND WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP TODAY.
This handsome boy is Apollo… now Salvatore.
Apollo came to us from NYC ACC, where he was facing euthanasia because he had stranger danger and didn’t get along with other dogs. We gave him a chance.
His first adoption was filled with love, but after a family member in the home abused him, his elderly adopters asked us to take him back so he could be safe.
Today, Apollo has the life we dreamed of for him. His family absolutely adores him. His mom made sure he received both knee surgeries, bought him his very dapper Louis Vuitton collar, and he is loved beyond measure.
This is the ending we want for every dog.
As we celebrate five years of Layla’s Heart Ranch and Rescue, we are also facing one of the hardest moments in our history.
We desperately need donations.
Our kennel buildings and sanctuary houses are facing repossession. Our phones are about to be shut off. We are struggling to keep up with our bills while continuing to care for the animals who depend on us every single day.
Without this rescue, many of our dogs have nowhere else to go.
If Apollo’s story made you smile, please help us give another dog the same chance. Every donation, every share, and every prayer truly matters.
Five years ago, we promised to fight for the dogs nobody else would. We’re asking for your help so we can keep that promise.

🆘️💔🆘️ A handsome Golden Retriever should never be waiting in a high kill shelter. 6 yo MARBLES is at Deadly Devore in San Bernardino County #California. Please help him be seen for a #SoCal forever or foster home 🙏 info 🔽 #A846284
He’s a very old boy. Sadly the old dogs on the street get picked on as they are the weakest.
He doesn’t have an owner but is instead a community dog. He’s a little scared to be without us and away from his spot (6/7)
This was filmed yesterday morning at Westside Animal Rescue in Phoenix. The man is Carlos. 39 years old. Came to the shelter to look at dogs. Told the front desk he was "just browsing." Not sure if he was ready for the commitment. Staff brought him to meet a brown mixed-breed named Rocky. Shepherd and Lab mix. Four years old. Carlos sat on the floor with Rocky for about thirty minutes. Rocky was calm. Sat beside Carlos. Let Carlos pet him. Normal meet-and-greet. Then Carlos stood up.
Told staff he wanted to "think about it overnight." That's when Rocky moved.
Didn't bark. Didn't jump. Just rushed forward and wrapped both front paws around Carlos's leg. Held on tight. Carlos tried to take a step. Rocky slid across the floor still gripping Carlos's leg. Wouldn't let go. Shaking. Tail tucked all the way down.
Body trembling. Making this quiet whining sound. Volunteer Jessica was in the room. She said: "Rocky wasn't being aggressive. He was terrified. You could see it in his whole body. He thought Carlos leaving meant being abandoned again." Carlos stood there frozen. Rocky still holding his leg. After a long moment, Carlos knelt back down. Rocky immediately climbed into Carlos's lap. Still shaking……. And at the end they go away together
School bus driver was fired after leaving students on the bus to save a dog drowning in a frozen lake.
A school bus driver was carefully driving through an icy road when he noticed a dark shape moving near what looked like a pile of snow beside the road.
At first, he kept going. His priority was the children on the bus, and the road was too dangerous to lose focus.
But as he got closer, he realized it wasn’t snow. It was a frozen lake. And the dark figure was a dog struggling in the freezing water, barely keeping its head above the ice.
The kids saw it too and started to cry, begging him to help. The driver pulled over, told every student to stay seated and never leave the bus, then ran straight toward the lake and into the water without even stopping to remove his phone or wallet.
He broke through the edge of the ice, reached the dog, and pulled it out before it went into shock.
By the time he got back on the bus, soaking wet and shaken, the kids were cheering like they had just watched a superhero.
But his phone was ruined, and the route was now over an hour late.
When the school finally reached him, parents were already upset, asking why their children had not arrived on time. He explained what happened, but the district said he had left students unattended and fired him for negligence.
Then the parents heard the full story.
A school board meeting was called, and the same parents who were worried about the delay stood up for him. They said the children were never in danger, and every kid on that bus came home talking about the man who saved a life.
Not only was he brought back to work…
The school honored him as a hero, because he didn’t just drive them to school, he showed them what courage looks like.
🚨 EMERGENCY: We Need Your Help 🚨
Yesterday marked five years since Layla’s Heart Ranch and Rescue officially became a 501(c)(3).
We were so hopeful that our five-year anniversary would bring in the donations we desperately needed to catch up on our bills. We set a goal of raising $5,000 to help us get back on track.
Unfortunately, we didn’t make it. Not even close.
We know it was a holiday weekend, and we are incredibly grateful for every person who donated, shared our posts, prayed for us, and supported us. Every act of kindness means more than you know.
But today, we are facing a heartbreaking reality.
We have been unable to pay many of our June bills, and now our July sanctuary building payments are due.
Without immediate support, our sanctuary buildings are at risk of repossession. We are also facing our phones being disconnected and our electricity being shut off.
This isn’t just about keeping a nonprofit open.
This is about the animals who call Layla’s Heart Ranch and Rescue home.
For the past five years, we have said “yes” to the dogs that no one else would take because of their breed, behavioral challenges, age, or medical needs. We have also rescued cats, horses, pigs, ducks, and chickens that had nowhere else to go.
Many of these animals are only alive today because this rescue exists.
If Layla’s Heart Ranch and Rescue is forced to close, there is nowhere for many of these animals to go.
We are asking from the bottom of our hearts: if you are able to make a donation today, no matter the amount, it truly will make a difference. And if you can’t donate, please share this post. One share could reach someone who is able to help.
Five years ago, this rescue began because one dog needed someone to say “yes.” Since then, that one “yes” has become a lifeline for more than 300 animals.
Today, we are asking for one more “yes.”
Thank you for believing in these animals and for standing beside us.

❤️ WHAT A DAY!! ❤️
Today is one of the biggest days in the history of Layla’s Heart Ranch and Rescue.
Today marks five years since we officially became a 501(c)(3)… and today my second children’s book, Am I A Bad Dog?, is officially released!
As we celebrate these incredible milestones, we’re also hoping to raise $5,000 TODAY to help care for the animals who depend on us.
Five years ago today, none of this existed.
It all started because of one dog…
Kringle.
On my very first day volunteering at a shelter, I met a dog very few people were willing to work with. I was terrified he wouldn’t make it out alive. I called rescue after rescue across the country, desperately trying to find someone who would give him a chance.
Every single one said no.
So I made a decision that changed my life forever.
If no one else was going to save Kringle… I would.
I started Layla’s Heart Ranch and Rescue to save one dog.
Five years later, because of that one “yes,” we’ve rescued more than 300 animals—dogs, cats, horses, pigs, ducks, and chickens. We’ve rescued dogs from fighting rings, taken in severe medical and behavioral cases, built a sanctuary from raw land, and fought for animals that had nowhere else to go.
Today, our goal is to raise $5,000 so we can continue saying “yes” to the next animal who needs us.
If you’ve ever wanted to help, today is the day.

If you can’t donate, please share this post. Every share helps us reach someone new, and that means more than you know.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in this mission, for believing in Kringle, and for standing beside us for the last five years.
Here’s to the next chapter… pun absolutely intended. 🤣❤️

Happy 4th everyone! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
What an honor for me to be celebrating our nation’s 250th birthday as an American citizen.
As I share every year, here is the GREATEST rendition of our anthem. Play it loud on this monumental day!

"Their owner passed away alone in his apartment. Nobody found him for three days. The dogs waited the whole time." When animal control finally arrived, Max and Buddy were sitting by the front door. Not destructive. Not panicked. Just sitting. Waiting. Doing what he had always taught them to do. They came to our shelter with nothing. No records. No vet history. No family contact. Just each other. And one old tennis ball that somebody thought to grab on the way out. That was eleven days ago. Every morning they sit at the kennel door and wait. Every time they hear footsteps they both stand up. Every time those footsteps pass — they go back and lie down together. They don't know he's not coming. They just know he always came back before. Max is 6. Buddy is 5. Both healthy. Both gentle. Both heartbreakingly good dogs. Neither one will do well separated. They have never spent a night apart. They were somebody's whole world. Now they need somebody to be theirs. If you are in the USA and you have room in your home and your heart — please share this until it reaches the right person. They've already waited long enough. Drop a ❤️ for Max and Buddy. And please — SHARE. One share could be everything.
This dog was removed from Skid Row by rescuers. They saw a suffering animal. They removed the dog. They didn't ask the police. They didn't ask the abuser. They didn't ask for permission. They removed the dog because the abuser was breaking the law. And now the dog will live happily ever after away from criminals.
POR SUERTE ESTE JOVEN PASABA POR ALLÍ Y RESCATÓ A ESTE POBRE PERRO 🐕. ESTABA SÚPER ASUSTADO Y NO CONFIABA EN NADIE.
POR FAVOR 🙏🏼 NO ABANDONES A LOS ANIMALES .
TENER UN ANIMAL COMO UN PERRO 🐕 ES MUCHA RESPONSABILIDAD.
"Before anyone says anything, we just got off the phone with the police and the neighboring jurisdiction, and we have called Animal Control again. Due to a vacation, there was no one available yesterday or today. This is Rusty, the dog from our previous post that so many of you shared. This video was taken less than 30 minutes ago, and it shows exactly why we are still pushing so hard to get him help. It is hot outside, and he should not be sitting out there like this without reliable care, water, shade, and safety. We are continuing to advocate for Rusty. Please keep sharing. Rusty deserves better than this."
"The vet looked at me and said, 'It might be time to think about saying goodbye.'" Max stopped eating four days ago. Stopped getting up. I'd already started preparing myself. Then Buddy did something I will never forget. He climbed up on that exam table — something he's NEVER allowed to do — and he wouldn't stop pressing his face against Max's. The vet tech tried to gently move him away. Buddy wouldn't budge. And then, for the first time in four days — Max lifted his head. The vet just stood there. Didn't say a word. We're not out of the woods. The vet wants to run more tests tomorrow. But tonight, Max ate three bites of food. Tonight, Max is still here. I don't know what tomorrow holds. But I know I watched a Labrador refuse to let his best friend give up. If you believe dogs fight for each other the way they fight for us — drop a ❤️ for Max and Buddy tonight. He needs all the strength he can get.
