The domain of relatable human psychological experience is vast and deep. The domain of standard psychiatric discourse is not commensurate with the territory which it attempts to navigate. That is a problem insofar as it leads to needless suffering on the part of patients.
@drainoSwampo The 86 year old hardline mullah is dead. A 56 year old hardline mullah is now in power. The regime has survived. It still has its uranium and it would take boots on the ground to remove it. But Trump is withdrawing our military from the region. That’s no victory.
@KenGardner11 I would be very interested if you could comment on these developments with reference to what Aristotle might shed light on them. What parts of the Politics or the Ethics seem to you to offer a perspective that we don’t get from the usual punditry? Can you bring him into the
@Doctors_GUILD The homeopathic Law of Similars applies to its treatment: methylene blue. You give this blue medicine to that blue patient and the patient turns pink.
@simkin_eric You may be doing better, but you probably aren’t trying to run a business that depends on imports for its supply chain. Those people have been hurt by this administration’s trade policies. The neoliberal economists warned about this. Maybe they deserve some credibility.
@KenGardner11 Many Iran hawks have believed that previous administrations failed to attack because they were weak or stupid; they thought that the solution was clear and only needed a president with the willingness to implement it.
But maybe Iran is a hard problem with no obvious solution.
@simkin_eric@CattardSlim Good point. But it shows that trade deficits are not necessarily a bad thing, which the free trade advocates have been arguing for years. That’s what the never-Trump Republicans told us in 2015 when Trump began denouncing free trade.
@athenaeumbc use his rigid yardstick to measure timber which had been gnarled and twisted by the storms of centuries. I hope that next discussion will find time to elaborate on how you can cultivate a flexible objectivity in ethics, where a universal law needs rectification in individual
@BenHamilton1776 He lacks grace under pressure. Time was, leaders of men were expected to have this in abundance. Standards of manly conduct have changed.
@TwoRulesOfWar The duties of the office include giving good advice to the president. Hegseth failed to advise Trump that Iran would attack its neighbors and close the Strait of Hormuz. For 3 months, they have shown no evidence of having had a plan to deal with Iran’s actions.
@athenaeumbc I'm interested in joining the discussions, and I want to start out with a monthly membership. I'm at the subscription site, but I don't know what is meant by "Pay faster next time with Link." Nor do I understand what happens if I provide a mobile number. Can you help? Thank you!
@Adespoto3@For_Film_Fans And he did not succumb to the temptation to overpay the Nazi officer which was common at the time: no monocle, no screaming SCHWEINHUNDT, just a lowkey but deadly professionalism in doing his duties.
@RadioFreeTom IIRC in 1971 there were 4 options for your dog tags: Protestant, Catholic, Jewish, or No Preference. This was for the use of the chaplains so that a Catholic could get last rites when brought to the hospital, among other reasons. Pretty simple system.
