Yesterday I finally #graduated from my #PhD in #volcanology! It's been a very very long road and I'd like to thank everyone, especially my family and friends, who helped me along the way β€ @SEELeeds@UniversityLeeds
"Wildlife" spot of the week - a dinner-plate-sized #terrapin (?) in the Leeds canal! @LLCanal
Apparently the UK has a few wild colonies of them, mostly escaped or released pets!
NERC just sent an email out recognising that the cost of living increase means its PhD stipend isn't sufficient to live on.
Their solution isn't to increase it, it's to suggest students start selling Avon and sign up to clinical trials...

No rain at all today on the @SEELeeds undergrad geology trip, but there was a ferocious wind across the mapping area! Only 2 days of fieldwork left and then the long drive home to Leeds! With @eilishmbrennan and @DrCraigMagee
Only 3 days left in the field on the @SEELeeds undergrad geology fieldtrip to #Assynt. The evenings here are so beautiful! @eilishmbrennan, Maeve and I braved the midges to admire the sky π€

The @SEELeeds undergrad trip explored the shores of Loch #Assynt today, with fearsome midges at times but beautiful views! The staff team has been joined by the amazing Maeve! π₯³ @eilishmbrennan, @DrCraigMagee
Is this a seal? Is this a sea-otter?! No, it's @eilishmbrennan going for a dip in the rain and wind in Loch Assynt. Day #3 on the @SEELeeds undergrad trip
Staff team for the @SEELeeds Assynt fieldtrip - another day at the coast, the blustery wind is cold on the fingers but keeps the biting midges away! π₯³ @eilishmbrennan@DrCraigMagee
I submitted my PhD thesis!!! It feels like I've been doing this PhD for such an incredibly long time, but am finally getting close to the finish line! Wish me luck for the viva in ~6 weeks time!
