Horror legend Brad Dourif officially announced in April 2024 that he is retiring from mainstream acting, with the clear exception of continuing to portray Chucky.

Dourif revealed his retirement during a JoBlo interview. He confirmed that he considers himself retired for all "non-Chucky stuff".

He refuses to let anyone else voice the iconic killer doll. He has vowed to remain the voice of Chucky for any future films, TV series, or projects created by Don Mancini.

Dourif noted that he only continues to play the character because he considers franchise creator Don Mancini to be family. Additionally, it allows him to work alongside his daughter, Fiona Dourif, who also stars in the franchise

While he is strictly retired from regular Hollywood auditions and mainstream roles, he occasionally breaks his rule for small, personal projects. For instance, he appeared briefly alongside his daughter in the medical drama The Pitt.
