@saintlouisheidt So the main issue is the one of language? Clause 5 is still being deliberated on & was not assented to today, which is good, because democracy. But I genuinely don't get it, I don't see how it threatens Afrikaans at all.

@saintlouisheidt Yes, I do understand that concern, mostly. I get your point about SGBs being demoralized by this. I just want to know which specific provisions would have this effect, because the ones I'm seeing seem reasonable.

@HoerenRemoer @saintlouisheidt I made no mention of Model C schools. But since you did - ALL public schools have SGBs. And whether you're halfway private or not, doesn't really matter. If you receive taxpayer funding, that should automatically make you answerable to govt.

@saintlouisheidt I'm not following here. I want to address the issues of the Bill directly. You're saying it would have a demoralizing effect on SGBs and as a result of that, it will lead to a dereliction of duties on the part of SGBs. Which parts of the Bill would cause this?

@saintlouisheidt If the Bill requires schools to take in more learners than they can manage with the resources available to them, I'd have a problem with that. I don't see that though.

And when it comes to public schools? I reckon SGBs should absolutely be accountable to govt.

@JustXavierB There's so much about this Bill that made me genuinely happy. A drop of regulation for homeschooling, creating a criminal offence for keeping children out of school, doing away with initiation practices. All great things in my opinion.
