the problem with therapy in India is that it is almost entirely depoliticised.

capitalism, caste, patriarchy, colonialism and imperialism produce trauma, yet therapy often reduces suffering to your childhood, your family, or your individual choices. if every wound is explained through the self, then it ends up reproducing the same capitalist hierarchies.

a decolonial, anti-caste and anti-imperialist lens is largely absent from mainstream therapeutic practice. that is why i think therapy can work for someone like me.

and it is too easy to become a therapist in India with terrible regulations. there is a clear shortage of qualified professionals, creating more space for random "I am taking clients" LinkedIn/Instagram therapists.
