It’s not a denial of free will. We sin because we choose to sin. And that’s wrong. Because we use our free will to go against God and His ways we desperately need His forgiveness, grace and redemption. Jesus knew that on our own we would never be able to uphold the law ( OT ) and be found innocent before a perfect and just God so He became the perfect sacrifice and took our place , taking our punishment in Himself. He offered and offers redemption and hope to all who follow Him.
A Christian recognizes that we must use our free will with the power of the Holy Spirit given to us as children of God to daily die to sin and become more like Christ.
The more like Christ we become, the more we love our Father and spend time in His word the less we desire to sin.
Christians fail and sin because of human nature. There are two types of Christian’s: those who are humble and admit they have sinned, repent and ask God to forgive them and make them more like His Son. These Christians recognize that their salvation should be worked out in fear and trembling, in humility and authenticity until they die. (Grace, purchased by the precious blood of Jesus is not a free license to do whatever one wants. It is a gift to the child of God who truly repents and lives for Him, despite his/her shortcomings and sins.) As James made clear, true faith, authentic faith requires action, or fruit if you will. ( i.e. a life that has been and is being changed more into the likeness of Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit will bear good fruit, despite falling short throughout life. ) The issue is are you living in and excusing sin in your life consistently or are you trying to overcome that sin.
Then there are Christians who take grace as an excuse to live however they want. This is hypocritical, and also illustrates that they do not understand what the Bible teaches and what it means to truly be a Christian.
You are talking about the latter. And yes, I have sinned. And I try, through the Holy Spirit and the free will given to me by God, to die daily to sin and walk in the Spirit.
There’s a difference between being a theist and a Christian. You can be a theist and not be a born again Christian. Also, if someone truly believes in the Bible, and are a follower of Jesus, they don’t believe that they have a free excuse to sin. That’s just immature/bad theology.
“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 15:57-58
Please hear me.
➡️ We are in a fight for eternity.
➡️ We are in a war for the souls of the lost.
God, in His abundant mercy and love, wants to use us to preach and proclaim to the world the truth of His word and Jesus!! And we cannot do that effectively if we are living in fear, seeking mans approval and walking through life unaware of the authority that comes in the spiritual realm as a child of God.
So what do we do?
“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” ~ Jeremiah 33:3
➡️ Equip yourself by spending time with the Lord daily.
➡️ Read His word ( the Bible ).
➡️ Pray: pray scripture, pray in tongues, intercede for your family, friends and whomever God places on your heart.
➡️ Be prepared to defend the word of God.
We must wake up from our slumber and take up the watch. We must pick up the cross and follow Jesus. (That requires obedience and the total surrender of our will to His.)
It’s that simple: follow, trust and obey Jesus.
Are you awake ?
