Creators are under siege.
Payment processer overreach is already stifling creative expression on the internet, forcing platforms like Steam, Patreon and ItchIO to censor content.
But it doesn't need to be this way, and we have the solution: WhyCloud
Free and open-source, with WhyCloud anyone will be able to host their own site and process payments - whether it be through standard, high-risk, ACH, or Crypto - no tech knowledge necessary.
Free, open-source, and built so that you control all of your data - nobody will be able to tell you what legal content you can or cannot create and sell.
@MoxyDraws This is actually exactly what needs to happen, and what we want to work towards enabling.
Only once creators are hosting their own work will they have the choice about what payment processing method they want to use.
However, developing such tools takes time and resources.
We recommend self-hosting @giteaio, as it is as close of a FOSS replacement to GitHub as you can get:

Their cloud does not forbid adult content either, but again, data on servers you don't control can never be truly safe.
This is insanity.
Depicting a character being strangled in a movie or TV-show is a-okay.
But if that character is naked then suddenly it's illegal?
This amendment makes no distinctions between fiction and reality.
@realfilmtoaster Thanks for the input. We did reach out to many different influencers and journalists who had covered the topic of artistic censorship, and advocated for change.
Unfortunately, none of them responded to us.
Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us in our campaign thus far!
Unfortunately, it does not seem like we will meet the goal that would have allowed us to dedicate a full amount of time to developing WhyCloud.
However, this issue is too important for us to sit around and do nothing! As such, we have released an updated roadmap of our development plans.
Development will be slower than we had hoped, but we will continue to build a community and - when it is ready - we will be able to show the world exactly how WhyCloud can help.
The fact that artists constantly have to worry about the how platforms will judge the morality of their fictional drawings is, quite frankly, ridiculous.
If artists were able to host content on their own platform and still be discoverable, then it would put an end to this chilling effect caused by vague and draconian terms.
This is what WhyCloud wants to enable.
We noticed there has been some confusion over what WhyCloud is and how it helps creators to resist censorship, so we made some videos to help explain it!
Follow us for more information and anti-censorship news!
It's devastating to see creatives forced to censor the content they are passionate about creating simply to keep the lights on.
Unless we work together and support a decentralized solution such as WhyCloud, we WILL see more creators being forced into this position.
Censorship isn't coming for us, it's already here.
If age-verification is going to be required by law, it should be free, open-source, and most importantly CLIENT-based so that nobody ever gets access to sensitive user data.
https://t.co/1ynvcAXEhi is one such solution.
WhyCloud can help creators configure this if they so choose.
Age verification laws silence creators into submission at the risk of being sued.
Even worse, the age verification lobby is pushing for expensive and invasive always-active age verification.
Only united can we stand against the wave of creative censorship that has been sweeping over the internet.
That is why we are pleased to announce that we now have a community Discord!

It has even happened to completely unsuspecting individuals over medical images. Even after Google admitted he did no wrong, they still refused to reinstate this man's account: https://t.co/VFC3m4wazv
Have YOU read the terms of the platforms you use?
It's not just a story, we know of a game developer who had their entire corporate Google account nuked overnight - simply for sharing nude artistic references.
No recovery, no chance to appeal. Even their email was gone.
