In 1919, Northern Counties Motor & Engineering Company was founded by Henry Lewis in Wigan. It started out by making bodywork and repairs for private automobiles.

By the 1920s it had shifted to creating bodywork for service buses. The company continued manufacturing badoywork in Wigan all the way up to 26 January 2005, where the Northern Counties Wigan plant was closed after completing its standing orders.

The Royal Albert Edward Infirmary is also known as the Wigan Infirmary. The new, current building was designed by Thomas Worthington and Joseph Hanson and was opened by the Prince and Princess of Wales in 1873.

Bulldog Tools was founded by William & Henry Parkes, and established in 1780 at the Clarington Forge site. They're one of the oldest businesses in Wigan still producing products on the same factory site.

Uncle Joe's Mint balls have been produced by William Santus & Co. Ltd. since 1898. They were originally made by Ellen Santus, the wife of William Santus, until production moved in 1919 to a factory near Wigan Wallgate railway station.

The stadium was designed by architect Richardson Thomas Johnson and was built in 1897 costing Β£16,000. The first professional football match there was in September 1897 when Wigan County played Burton Swifts in a friendlies match.
Springfield Park was a multi-purpose stadium and the home ground of Wigan Athletic F.C. for 21 years. Its highest capacity was 40,000. It was demolished in 1999 for a housing estate.

Mab's Cross is a boundary marker datig from around the 13th century and first being mentioned in 1277. It is one of the four markers of the route from Wigan to Chorley. It was part of a disproven legend, but it's still worth a read.

In April 1974, the Wigan Corporation Transport Department became part of the Bee Network. After a two-year, Β£15.7 million redevelopment, Wigan bus station reopened in late 2018 as we kow it today.

The Wigan Mining Statue was created by the sculptor Steve Winterburn depicting a family who all worked in the pits and was unveiled in 2020.

Since around 1890, the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway station in Wigan was criticised by Wigan Corporation due to the condition of the station. This led to it being replaced on 2 February 1896 with the current Wigan Wallgate Station.

The Brick Community Stadium was called the JJB Stadium when it opened in 1999. In 2009, it was renamed the the DW Stadium. On May 13th 2024 it was changed again to its current name after a partnership with a local charity.

Wigan Little Theatre was founded in 1943 as a voluntary organisation. In 2019, the theatre was given the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service and hosted a visit from King Charles III (The Prince of Wales at the time).
