69 days ago I started a petition to get #hedgehogs greater legal protection.
21 days ago it qualified for written response from gov.
In 113 days petition closes.
No support from conservation organisations etc.
If you talk the talk, walk the walk.

@sgw5678 Yes - I’m up to 3 years age with some here now and wonder how much longer they’ll survive for. I’ll keep looking after them tho and that gives them the best chance of making it to another year each time :)
@sgw5678 Aww, it’s always disconcerting to not see familiar faces back. I’ve not seen Squirt since she was released and am now concerned she may have been the road casualty (gone before I could scan as only found out two days later).
@sgw5678 I’ve seen it before - I would hazard a guess they ate too quickly or a little too much and underestimated their capacity 🙂 sometimes extremely high burdens of parasites can cause it but they seem to be a reasonable shape so that seems less likely a cause.
WARNING - the last image after the warnings is the wound without green to hide it… you have been warned!!!
Thought I’d do a little update on Onyx as we saw the vet yesterday for a progress check. Vet was very pleased as she had doubts we could get … https://t.co/fIrgJuJuCv
A not great photo of Onyx, the hedgehog from Kettering attacked by a dog. It’s been a while so an update was needed. He remains on twice daily wound care, strong pain relief and two antibiotics. His main (huge) wound is reducing in size, but in the la… https://t.co/D3I103lpGJ
This is Onyx, we saw the vet again today as I was very concerned at the colour of the tissue inside this wound. (I’ve coloured it over in green marker so it doesn’t make anyone faint or puke…). The lovely vet who debrided it on Tuesday saw him today … https://t.co/gSoOp0zTqn
When you’ve released a reprobate but he insists on returning to his bed every morning to sleep the day away…
Find yourself a wild nest Puck 🤣 you’re not getting any food in there either!

It’s been another rough week here and yes I am closed. The voicemail has been changed to reflect that and other changes will follow. There is some good news later in this post though!
A few sad cases have come in recently including Onyx, pictured. He … https://t.co/F2d0tSB3qZ
@doncaster_free Aaah yes Twitter is great but I can’t fit everything in a tweet and it’s just too time consuming to update several social media places. Insta publishes to FB as well, automagically, but the best I can make happen like that is a link to insta for the full update. Photo of Puck!
REMEMBER: weetabix is NOT ok to feed hedgehogs. If you find an injured or unwell (out in day wandering not actively nesting) one contact a rescue without delay, DO NOT feed them inappropriate stuff like this. Kitten kibble & fresh clean water to help the ones visiting at night.
UPDATE - this hedgehog now believed found, both back legs with severe injuries, set in infection and flystrike. I’ve taken to vets for a release from their agony. RIP little prickly. PLEASE take care when gardening & using strimmers.
‼️URGENT RUSHDEN GRANGEWAY ‼️
I’ve just been told there is a hedgehog in the area shown on the map which is badly injured and needs urgent help. It’s out in the day, with injuries to both rear legs.
It’s unfortunately gone under a fence and into the g… https://t.co/CLbk3HTC0b
Starting another post with ‘I don’t know where to start…’ but there is a positive in here this time.
First of all, yesterday Garnet wasn’t the only loss - Henry passed away within an hour of the vet appt he was going to. He wasn’t able to eat or dr… https://t.co/ktz15S7bw1
Garnet passed away overnight, without ever uncurling from her ball. Rigour mortise has stiffened her paws & spines and I can feel the change in fluid distribution in her body where she’s been lying, so there’s no question about it any more.
It’s absolu… https://t.co/hfm4TancPK
Don’t quite know where to start, given I’m meant to be closed. Photos 1 2 & 3 are a hog named Henry who was lying out in the day for most of today from what I can gather. He was picked up off the road and popped into a garden but I was called when his … https://t.co/7FZ67Ls1uJ
Unfortunately the injured hedgehog hasn’t yet been found but this lad did come in earlier this evening from a pocket park in Rushden. I named him Boots because it doesn’t matter how poorly they are, they each deserve to be remembered.
