WikiGap Nigeria 2026 is our annual initiative to celebrate and document the achievements of Nigerian women.
To mark International Women’s Day 2026, Wikimedia User Group Nigeria will roll out three key programmes to bridge the gender gap on Wikipedia and amplify Nigerian women’s stories:
🔹 March 1–31: Nationwide online campaign to create and improve articles about notable Nigerian women in English, Hausa, Yoruba, and Igbo.
🔹 April 8 | Abuja: One-day capacity-building training for new female editors, followed by structured mentorship.
🔹 April 9: High-level symposium, “Give to Gain,” hosted at the Residence of the Swedish Embassy in Nigeria, featuring inspiring women leaders.
In partnership with the Swedish Embassy in Nigeria, Women FM 91.7, NAWOJ, Girls Voices Initiative, and Africa Wiki Women.
Let’s give to gain.
Let’s document her story.
Let’s close the gap. 💜

Here's how I got to present my string art to our mummy @NOIweala the DG of World trade Organization at my prestigious Universities 45th convocation ceremony lecture.
Mama said and I quote, "Please tell your own story and let it be a story of success" this is me telling mine❤️
May this festive season bring you joy, good health, and renewed inspiration to share knowledge.
Thank you for your dedication to documenting our stories, culture, and heritage.
Wishing you a peaceful celebration and a more impactful year ahead!

People from Ondo and Ekiti tend to hide their true identity behind the British-made Ile-Ife. In fact, 87% of the population in present-day Ondo and Ekiti are not Yoruba; they are entirely Edo. Most of their kings did not come from Ile-Ife but were ruled by princes from Benin.
Happy Birthday, @muib_shefiu! 🎂🎉
Your dedication and contributions to the Wikimedia movement in Gombe & Nigeria inspire us all.
Wishing you joy, love, and a wonderful celebration today. Cheers to you, Shefiu! 🥂

There are no Yoruba’s in Edo state
There are no Yoruba’s in Edo state
There are no Yoruba’s in Edo state
Edo state is made up of different tribe who share a common ancestors and speak a common language
Edo south is predominantly Edo
Edo Central Esan
Edo north - Owan, Afemai, Okpameri,Etuno,Enmwan
Akoko Edo speak 8 distinct dialect and none of them is Yoruba
This is the map of the western Edoid speaking people according to Thomas Northcote in 1915 gave us an insight on the map of were Edo land begins and were it end, places like Isua,Ijagba, uhobe{sobe} etc are edo speaking towns in Ondo state, like I said there are No yoruba people in Edo state: Uhobe {Sobe} was later added to Edo state in 1991 during the creation of Edo and delta state.
Ijagba wasn’t successful but they have a recognized Oba with the title “Odion logbo” and still refer to. Themselves as Edo people same thing goes to the isua people.
Edoid speaking people can be found in majority states like
Edo state
Delta state
Bayelsa state
In minority
Ondo state
Rivers state
It was against this backdrop ben Elugbe wrote letters to the ondo state govt for Edo language, to be taught in the edoid speaking area in 1989.
