It might not have been on the lips of 51% of the blk populous, who can say, but by the 90s it was a big enough topic to warrant (easily researchable) studies, polls & reports. U & Travis might've been shocked but Whoopi wasnt alone on this idea

In 1991 a poll of ~800 blk ppl by the Joint Center for Politics saw that 72% of them rejected the AA term. Yes 800 isn't 1M blk ppl, but it shows this idea wasn't new concept in 90s

@MScarshall @charise_lee Umm, actually stealing pennies makes $$ & it's done all the time. If it didn't matter gas stations wouldn't charge you to the 10th of a penny. I haven't had this problem but I've had pumps cut off or actually drip gas from the hose & the attendant/mgrs do nothing to rectify it
