Saw my first basking sharks of the 2026 season with at least six sharks off the Beara Peninsula in West Cork on Saturday, then at least a dozen sharks off Red Strand near Clonakilty this afternoon. Shark season is well and truly here. #sharks#wildlife#westcork#ireland
My first Swallow of the 2026 flew by yesterday evening (04 March). Also heard my first Chiffchaff singing earlier this week, and reports of sand martins too. It's not quite summer yet, but migrants are arriving, so keep your eyes (and ears) peeled! (Photo from a previous year).
