Leading the campaign to protect Victoria's #forests from #logging Authorised by Amelia Young for The Wilderness Society Victoria 353-355 King St West Melbourne
Amazing visit to the @GreatForestNP just outside Melbourne. Spectacular stands of mountain ash - the tallest flowering trees in the world. This forest area is unbelievably biodiverse, home to multiple endangered species and only an hour from Melbourne!
A blue-green algae alert has been issued for the Lower Darling-Baaka River today. It was only a few days ago when pumping was allowed to resume upstream of Bourke.

View from the tree sit over misty forests of Errinundra East Gippsland. Too precious to log, & the bulldozers would've moved in without brave actions of community member still up the tree. @DanielAndrewsMP the senseless destruction needs to stop & transition brought forward.
BREAKING: A protester is occupying a platform 40m up a tree to stop logging machines from going into precious unburnt forests in Errinundra, East Gippsland. “This is the place where people come to sooth the wounds of a burnt heart... This is the place we need to save." #SpringSt
Confidential document we got through FOI reveals Enviro Dept. told state owned VicForests logging should stop in bushfire ravaged East Gippsland due to "risk of “serious and irreversible damage” to the state’s biodiversity". But logging has continued!

A long-running court case to protect old growth forests from logging is part of the sorry saga of definitional loopholes, weak standards, non-enforcement -- & bloated wood volumes.
You can support @FFRCinc & @EJ_Aus amazing work, by chipping in here: https://t.co/4OPGipSF3l
Matt Ruchel from @vnpatweets: ‘a “deep strategic flaw” in the program from the beginning was that nature bore the risk: “The property industry got security and certainty but the environment got half-baked promises that have not been delivered.”’
Each drop passes through a rich architecture of trees, ferns, shrubs, vines, grasses, bryophytes, lichens and deep soils before it reaches our tap. #water#nature#vic#healthycatchments
Unfortunately, the Morrison Government is proposing to immediately hand environmental safeguards to the states while promising to make changes of an ill-defined nature to improve environmental standards in the future. #EPBCActReview#EPBC#auspol https://t.co/rLveMZ9ytE
Claims from pro-logging MPs & groups that Bunnings' decision will cost hundreds of jobs are ridiculous & unfounded. VicForests broke the law. Responsibility lies solely with the government. Logging isn't sustainable, or legal, & workers need to be supported to transition now.
Good on you @Bunnings for dropping VicForest supplied wood from your shops and sticking to your commitment of "Zero-tolerance" of illegal timber sourcing.🐨🌳
The State gov should stop wasting tax payers $ on legal appeals and bring forward transition funds for industry
"If firefighters are given the best possible information about the most critical environmental values to protect from fire, then they make good early calls about how to respond"—Tim Beshara, Wilderness Society https://t.co/beizOjnE7p
Thanks to our recent Federal Court for @LeadbeatersPoss and years of campaigning by FoLP and many other groups including @Wilderness_Aus, Bunnings will stop selling timber logged by VicForests. #Forests#SpringSt https://t.co/IWxGO1tcCz
Thank you @Bunnings! Next step is to stop selling NSW public native forests that are home to koalas and other threatened species. https://t.co/5U5NBUM085
