I am proud to announce that with Amendment 36 to Senate Bill 1, we have agreed upon a plan to bring historic property tax relief to Hoosiers. I am grateful for the leadership of Speaker Todd Huston and President Pro Tem Rod Bray and for the ways they have partnered with us to deliver this meaningful tax relief to Hoosiers. I encourage House members to support this amendment and urge the Senate to then take action quickly to get it to my desk for signature.
Huge thank you to @GovBraun for his support of ensuring charter schools receive their fair share of local funding!
"Braun also emphasized support for legislation for IPS and charter schools to share funding.
'I think those resources ought to be shared, and we’ll find the resources to do it. And we’ve not taken anything away from public education,' Braun said."

Promises made, promises kept: Today I voted for universal school choice! Every kid deserves to have the best possible education — this will help make that a reality for Hoosiers
School closures are really hard, never something an elected official should make false statements about. I would urge @SenFadyQaddoura to correct the record. PPHS is not closing, and it is a disservice to families to throw out such wild, unfounded rumors.
Charter schools are free, public, & open to all.
They serve the majority of Black, Hispanic, & low-income public school students within IPS boundaries.
They lead their students to superior academic gains.
Yet they face an $8,000 per pupil funding disparity.
This must change.
🏛️ #SB518 is about fairness! Charter schools are public schools, but they don’t get the same local funding. Families pay property taxes, yet those dollars stay with the district they left.
Tell your lawmakers: Fund all public school students fairly! 📢 https://t.co/0mrdPB4DNf
House Bill 1002, authored by Bob Behning, legislation to reduce K-12 education regulations passes the House and will now move to the Senate for further consideration.

Hearing from the great Senator Linda Rogers about the transformative legislation she has carried to support public charter schools in Indiana.
Senator Rogers is a true champion and someone I greatly admire.
