In 2015, we produced a video with York U professor Denis Pilon explaining how Mixed Member Proportional could work in Canada.
Ten years later, the case is even clearer. We need consensus and collaboration, not unchecked power won in a few swing ridings. https://t.co/9sxeygiJdd
Hey Doug Ford,
there are high school students working more hours part-time
than Ontario’s legislature sat last year.
Maybe cool it on the “get to work” lectures.
Also, you can vote for the local candidate you like best regardless of party, without hurting your party, since it's the party (regional) ballot that determines the party make-up of the House, with MMP. About 32% of voters split their ballots this way in New Zealand.
Under proportional representation, MPs and party members have real leverage.
If leadership ignores them, they can break away and still win seats. That pressure keeps parties accountable and responsive.
That’s how democracy should work.

The case for proportional representation is undeniable.
@CTVNews reports on how our democracy distorting voting system fuels regional divisions, and how proportional representation can fix it.
@MarkJCarney, will you champion a system where every vote truly counts?
#cdnpoli
@maxfawcett We have a multi-party democracy already, and we need a system where your vote counts, no matter where you live. For example, Alberta Liberals should have elected 11 MPs, not just two.
📢 The @OntarioNDP has once again committed to proportional representation in their platform!
They promise to replace first-past-the-post with a mixed-member proportional system where every vote counts.
Let’s make sure electoral reform stays on the agenda!
If any Ontario leaders are wondering what to raise in the leader's debate, take some inspiration from Jack Layton.
He knew our electoral system was broken—and that Canada needs proportional representation
