Back in the day, we generally preferred federal and state universities over private universities. And while there may still be differences in training, exposure, and skill development, I honestly don’t think anyone should deliberately put themselves through unnecessary hardship anymore.
If you can afford a private university, go ahead, study the course you want, graduate, and keep improving yourself as you grow in your profession.
At the end of the day, it’s not the university alone that makes the person. Your commitment to learning, developing your skills, and continually improving your practice matters just as much.
This month makes it 14 years since I became a doctor. The journey took me 10yrs-5yrs Human Anatomy at Uniport and 5yrs Medical school at Calabar.
I spent 11 years practicing and training in England and the last 2 years thriving in Canada.
I’ve been lucky to have 2nd chances and have remained focused on building a reputable & robust career in Medicine.
So, when I speak to my
Mentees and younger doctors, I let them know I’ve walked their path and it’s just delayed gratification , grit & a sprinkle of luck or God’s favour that keep you on the path to success.
So, If you try & don’t succeed, dust yourself up & try again. Tough times don’t last , only tough people do. Your dream is valid!
