Erfinder von Dialysegeräten und der ersten Herz-Lungen-Maschine, sowie künstlicher Organe. Das erste künstliche Herz konnte 1982 bei einem Menschen eingesetzt werden. 1967 verbesserte Kolff die Dialysemaschine für Heimanwendung.

Inventor of dialysis machines and the first heart-lung machine, as well as artificial organs. The first artificial heart was implanted in a human in 1982. In 1967 Kolff improved the dialysis machine for home use.
