A reporter at the Cody Enterprise in Cody, Wyoming has resigned after being confronted over fabricating quotes, likely through an AI program that he was using to write his articles: https://t.co/XU6NlD1ZVq.
A wind utility company in Wyoming is trying to make wind turbines more visible to birds by painting just one blade black.
@WillWalkey joins us to discuss his report on wind turbines for @WYPublicRadio.

The story of the boom/bust economy plays out in towns across the West. When energy markets are up, the community is flush with cash to build libraries, roads or recreation centers. But what happens when that money runs dry?
My latest for @Marketplace

Also it's notable that DeJoy is a Trump appointee and the mail really should be one of the least politicized parts of our government. But I don't think people care about that. Dems are in power right now.
Unironically I think recent changes to mail processing -- esp. in rural communities -- may have an electoral impact this November.
It's such an obvious bad look that birthday cards between neighbors in Reno must take a trip to CA before being delivered

This will impact service throughout rural America, including WY where all mail will be sent out-of-state before being delivered. This is an in-your-face impact for folks who don't think gov't works efficiently.
I also think it may be the only way for the USPS to save money
This isn’t to say that NPR doesn’t have problems. When people say that what they’re hearing has changed in the past 10 years, I think it’s important that journalists reflect rather than lash out.
Our audience is smart and observant, and we must continue to listen to them.
There’s been a ton of talk online about @NPR and its place in journalism and society at large.
I want to say I’ve been fundraising all week at @WYPublicRadio and not one caller has commented about this controversy. Donations have remained steady. People still value local radio.
For us hosts and reporters, I think this shows that listeners care less than we think about the inner workings of our organizations.
What they want is consistent info and entertainment that matters to them. They will ignore all this noise if the reporting is good.
What do you get when you combine beautiful mountains, a town with no government, and a developer eager for influence and backed by a private equity firm? Probably something like Big Sky, Montana.
On the future of skiing in the West for @Harpers

Words and rhetoric matter, and over years they sometimes add up to justify or allow or give a wink-n-nod to some pretty unthinkable actions. This is one of those sick outcomes.
Avy forecasting gaps exist all over the West and really shouldn't at this point. Can a local ultra-rich person pay for this?
One 34-y/o Saratoga town councilman and father of 3 died this year in a slide -- triggered in an area known as "Avalanche Alley."
Snowmobiling is a growing winter activity in WY. Yet no avalanche forecasting exists in the entire eastern part of the state, including the popular Snowy and Sierra Madre ranges.
One sheriff is trying to add this safety infrastructure to his community.

The former CEO of @HumaneSociety told @WyoFile the Wyoming wolf torture allegations are shaping up to be as globally infamous an incident as the Michael Vick dogfighting ring and the 'Cecil the lion' controversy.
I don't think this is just going away.

Wind energy is expected to be a big part of the energy transition. But it comes with consequences, including potentially more deadly collisions between turbines and birds and bats. But there may be a simple, game-changing solution.

What I hope is that this photo leads people to rethink how we talk about and treat animals. I appreciate the CSD for publishing it.
Wolves have no idea where borders are and the political and cultural rifts they’ve caused. We need to remember that.
This story shows a dark side of my state.
It’s an isolated incident, but how many people saw this wolf in Daniel or heard this story before it reached the public? How many similar acts haven’t gone viral?
The reality is a many people here celebrate or tolerate this behavior.
Cowboy State Daily has obtained a photo of a wolf that was captured and had its mouth taped shut while it was reportedly taken to a local man’s house and a bar in rural Daniel, Wyoming, before it was killed. https://t.co/iEEGGwvuon
These folks won’t comment on this story, but they might comment “smoke a pack a day” on CSD’s next wolf story.
If something is vilified for so long, I think it’s inevitable that something like this happens.
Whatever you think about wolf policy, torture is not an answer.
