@NathanBerryman@L__Macfarlane Local generation has its part to play and those small reactors are an option, especially for energy intensive industry. But for residential and businesses, cleaner renewable generation should be put ahead of that.
@NathanBerryman@L__Macfarlane Other European countries and more are in construction or being planned. A larger European electricity network reduces these peaks and troughs in supply of renewables.
Short term this transition may be more painful than it should be, but the advances in tech and cheaper
@NathanBerryman@L__Macfarlane generation costs overall will improve business and growth long term due to lower energy costs that are not from fossil fuels. We also have the possibility of tidal and wave energy in the UK. A massive resource of untapped potential energy that is generally more consistent.
@NathanBerryman@L__Macfarlane Even if we opened up significant oil/gas fields for exploration, the UK's contribution to the gas supply globally and thus the global market price would be negligible.
@NathanBerryman@L__Macfarlane Although you make some valid and well rounded points, there is a significant myth that UK oil/gas would be sold at a lower price to us than imported oil/gas. Fossil fuels are mined/drilled in the UK by private enterprise and will sell on the open market at global prices
@CrossCountryUK Leicester β Bham 0722 why is this train only ever 3 carriages now? By Hinckley, it's standing room only. This used to be 5 carriages....why have we lost 2?
@afneil It forces compromise both on the left and right. If the right want more votes, then they shift closer to the centre where the majority of swing voters reside. It's a system that not just represents the consensus but should be able to adjust itself to avoid populist idiolgy
@fesshole I wonder what happens when they find out their skin hosts all sorts of microscopic creatures too, not to mention the billions inside you...π³
@watsoncomedian It should be noted that forecasts further than 3-4 weeks out are not run on the same weather models we get the regular 2-5 day forecasts from that you see on TV. These are specialised seasonal models that produce trends and probabilistic forecasts based on wider climatic patterns
@andreajenkyns Instead of making vacuous comments like this, maybe try and form a coherent argument explaining how what he tweeted was wrong.... I'll wait...
@CarolineLucas "it just does" is not a valid response from any grown up in any industry let alone a government minister. An absolute imbecile and complete tool of a person. Shouldn't be anywhere near a government department...
