Alexis Ibarra will start his career as a credit analyst at UMB Bank in Kansas City while pursuing an online MBA through Pittsburg State University.

The Kansas Citian attended Guadalupe Centers Charter Schools @GCISchools, then thrived at Jewell as captain of the Cardinal soccer team and leader on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and in Mi Gente club. Alexis graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in business administration – finance and management and is one of 42 student-athletes nationwide to receive a $10,000 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship for academic and athletic excellence. 🌟

Biology grad Tristan Barroeta is pursuing a Doctor of Physical Therapy at Missouri State University.

The Webb City native made the most of his time at Jewell with four years on the soccer team and Mi Gente Club. Tristan was recognized for the Dean's List, Academic All-GLVC and CSC Academic All-District List.

The Jewell Board of Trustees is pleased to welcome new members Katie (Martin) Lawson, Ed.D., and Ted Kapke, J.D., both 1999 Jewell alumni. Katie serves as executive director of special programs for North Kansas City Schools and Ted is a trial attorney and partner with Kapke and Willerth in Lee's Summit.

David Warm, @MARCKCMetro executive director, was elected board chair and Tyler Griffin '01, a strategic advisor for Healthcare IT Leaders, was voted vice chair.

Aidan Neill of Las Vegas has been selected to serve in the Kansas Highway Patrol. 💙 He will enter the 26-week academy in July and, after successful completion, be assigned as a state trooper in Johnson and Wyandotte counties. At Jewell, Aidan was a communication major and member of the soccer team.

Leo Edwards has been hired as a first-grade teacher in the Independence School District! The Lansing, Kansas, native was a four-year member of Concert Choir, Cardinal Voices and Choral Scholars, a member of Kappa Delta Pi education honor society, and a vocalist, pianist and auxiliary percussionist for Jazz Band.

Ryan Erlacher has been named Jewell's new Vice President for Athletics.

He brings more than 20 years’ administrative experience, most recently serving as Director of Athletics at Augusta University and Clayton State University in Georgia. Ryan begins his new role on July 1.

Mya Zavala is this year's recipient of the Leona Kresse Award! She was voted by her class as the senior woman with outstanding character and potential for great achievement.

Jewell's Student Senate president will work as a medical assistant at Kansas City Bone & Joint Clinic while preparing for medical school. She received the John C. Johnson Award for Excellence in Student Research for her cancer research and has interned with the North American Primary Care Research Group. She also volunteers at Clinic with a Heart in her hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska, and in a cardiac rehabilitation unit.

Congratulations to the 2026 Bill "Pee Wee" Summers recipient Ford Brandt! Classmates selected him as the senior man with outstanding character and integrity, service to the community and potential for great achievement.

Ford is an aspiring physician from Topeka, Kansas, graduating magna cum laude with a degree in physics. He will spend his gap year working at a local skin cancer center. A Faculty Award Finalist, Ford has held leadership roles in honor societies for physics, biology, pre-med and Mortar Board as well as Phi Gamma Delta and Interfraternity Council. He has especially enjoyed being part of the Pryor Leadership Studies Program and working on the class legacy project to renovate Mathes Gym.
