People who do not enjoy gay stuff in their game were okay with the same-sex content in BG3, because BG3's ethos was about empowering the player to make significant choices.

You could stop the Mind Flayer and save the world, or you could become a Mind Flayer and destroy the world. You could do and be a very wide range of things and it was okay that some of those things were gay because the player was given a high degree of agency.

By contrast, in "Dragon Age: The Veilguard" the only thing you could be was Taash's supportive friend who helped "them" come out to "their" mother. The only thing you could do was affirm Taash's identity. You were given few or no meaningful choices with regard to how to interact with the gay story content in that game, and that is what makes it so offensive.
