The interesting thing is that dozens of people are screaming at the police:

“It’s in its packaging, he just bought it. He has a receipt for it.”

Dozens of people are shouting at the police, which is a good sign, but the cops still arrest him.

In this case, pure technically the Police can only arrest you if they think you will use the bat as a weapon. In this case, obviously wrong he just came out of store.

If this arrest is legal, buying a baseball bat in the UK is practically impossible. Cops can just arrest you after you pay at the cashier.

Prof Jason Arday called the police on a fellow academic and a journalist who were investigating discrepancies in his academic and charitable record.

Devon and Cornwall Police declined to investigate Prof David Harris after he sent Prof Arday a series of legitimate questions about inconsistencies in his record via email. Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Police investigated a harassment allegation against Times Higher Education journalist Jack Grove for doing his job.

The Met went on to advise Mr Grove not to contact Prof Arday again because it was affecting the professor’s mental health.

This is the same force that sent five armed police officers to arrest Irish comedian Graham Linehan as his plane landed at Heathrow over three gender-critical posts on X.

It is not good enough for Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley simply to say his force “dropped the ball” in this case. It happens too often.

Jason Arday sought to use the police as a tool to silence those who were investigating his record.

In March, the Starmer Government announced an official definition of Islamophobia — repackaged as “anti-Muslim hostility” — along with plans to appoint an Islamophobia tsar.

Since then, we have seen that definition weaponised to silence legitimate criticism of Islam, its history and its practices.

Shadow Justice Secretary Nick Timothy was reported to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, branded an Islamophobe and even faced calls to resign from the then Prime Minister. All because he dared to criticise a public Muslim prayer event in Trafalgar Square.

Reform UK was then reported to the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) by 28 Labour MPs for allegedly “Islamophobic” comments, simply because it too questioned the appropriateness of the public Muslim prayer event in Trafalgar Square.

Within 45 minutes of the then Secretary of State announcing the definition in the House of Commons, the pro-Gaza MP Iqbal Mohamed called for it to be incorporated into the Nolan Principles of Public Life. Had that happened, MPs could have faced sanctions for raising issues such as the grooming gangs scandal or Islamist extremism in Parliament.

The Free Speech Union also successfully challenged South Wales Police after it introduced its own bespoke definition, instructing officers to record any comment that went beyond “legitimate” discussion of Islam. Following the threat of legal action, the force paused its guidance.

In a free society, no religion should enjoy greater protection than any other or be shielded from legitimate criticism and debate.

Parliament abolished the blasphemy laws in 2008. The last Government effectively revived them — for Islam alone — through the back door.

We still do not know who the Islamophobia tsar will be.

Andy Burnham must abandon these plans and scrap the proposed Islamophobia tsar.

At the same time that rapists, murderers and other dangerous criminals are being released early because of prison overcrowding, the Government is trying to bring in legislation that could see parents jailed for up to five years for well-intentioned conversations with their gender-confused children.

This is madness. Andy Burnham must drop the draft bill to ban conversion therapy practices.

Pakistan has told the United Kingdom that Shabir Ahmed, the ringleader of the Rochdale grooming gang, was "raised, groomed and spoilt in Britain."

The outraged response has been almost universal. Here is the problem. It is true, and I can prove it.

For eighteen years, Oldham Council employed this man as a welfare rights officer, seconded to a community centre, sitting across the desk from vulnerable families and their children. He sat on the board of the Citizens Advice Bureau. He carried a Labour Party card. And he was protected.

The national inquiry now has the power to find out who and why. Every official, every decision, every name. Whether it does is dependent on the pressure we apply. Unless you believe a Labour Party Baroness will do it willingly.

I understand why people feel it. But eight years ago I was told there was no cover-up and no story worth telling, by the people who ran the council, the police and the party that held both.

Three council leaders are gone. Every case they brought against me was defeated in the courts, and in May the High Court ruled against GMP itself. A national inquiry now exists because ordinary people refused to accept the official account, and they are the ones still running from the truth.

Burnham in Number 10 raises the stakes. For years he held up his assurance reviews as proof there was nothing to find.

While those reviews were telling you nothing happened, Operation Hexagon was running, a joint operation between GMP and Oldham Council that came after the people asking questions instead of the men raping children. Every officer involved answered, through the chain of command, to the Mayor who held police and crime powers in his own hands.

The statutory inquiry can now compel his evidence under oath, and the reviews, and Hexagon, become part of what he has to answer for. The only way he escapes is if we stop.
