We’re reaching an interesting point with AI coding.

Developers are using AI more than ever.

But trust hasn’t caught up.

That should tell us something.

The goal shouldn’t be to get AI to write more code.

It should be to make AI-generated code easier to understand.

The bottleneck is shifting from typing code to understanding systems.

Architecture. Debugging. Security. Trade-offs.

AI can produce code.

It still doesn’t give you a reason to trust it.

AI coding tools are getting scary good.

But I’m not convinced that means programmers are becoming less important.

If anything, the opposite might happen.

When AI can generate 500 lines of code in seconds, the expensive skill becomes knowing whether those 500 lines should exist
