The default wallpapers of Longhorn milestone 3 to 6 builds. Which is your favourite? Personally I dig the feel of M5’s in particular, with the glass logo and glowed text - combined with the aurora.

Luna, Mint and Red are the wallpapers of Smartphone 2002, the smartphone counterpart of Pocket PC 2002. Mint and Red are heavily modified stock photos.

The default wallpaper of Windows 10 version 1903 onwards, and three variants: the Pride 2019 gay wallpaper, the Pride 2020 gay wallpaper and the 365 version.

This wallpaper is also a heavily processed photo, like the original in pre-1903.

@pivotman3191 @sebovwdude Yep. They were taken by shining light into a cutout Windows logo, then hundreds of the shots were combined in post-production. The other variants probably have even more work done to them.

And for anyone curious where the wallpapers were taken, it's Wharariki Beach, New Zealand. McCurry took img100 as stated in above tweet, while another photographer called JC Carey took img1 on the same trip.

Some of Windows 10's wallpapers were heavily altered from their original photos. Notice the altered clouds and lighting in img100, and the addition of a running woman in img1.

It's worth noting that the default lock screen wallpaper is somewhat iconic now, given how much exposure and memes it's had. It was taken by Steve McCurry and interestingly, it's not his first iconic photo - he also took Afghan Girl.

This was taken by @artwolfe at Glacier National Park, Montana, USA, likely during the 90s. It shows Swiftcurrent Lake and Grinnell Point. I don't have a backstory for it though.

The version in Release Candidate builds is cropped differently, while the final version was stretched a bit.

The img22 wallpaper from Windows Vista. It was taken by Microsoft employee Steve Fu in August 2003, as he was able to access the lake at Cascade Range, Washington, USA due to a cancellation. He submitted the photo as a Vista wallpaper in 2006, and was paid $1000.

Gulin also took this Windows Vista wallpaper at the coast of Forks, Washington, USA during the 90s. He was on a photoshoot with family and friends, and used Kodak VS film since he was testing it for them.

Love the color palette and vibe of this wallpaper.

The Forest sample picture in Windows Vista. Darrell Gulin took this photo at Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park, California, USA around June 1993. A mountain lion was walking towards him here, so he banged his tripod on the ground to scare her away.
