Interview with a teacher who recently left the profession.
Why did you resign?
“I have a Master’s degree.
I work really hard.
I love teaching kids and am great at my job.
I do it all for a disgracefully low salary.
All of that and I’ve never felt so disrespected by so many.”
Distance learning in the Spring was emergency learning—no one knew what to do or how to do it, we just did it. If states announced mandatory distance learning for the Fall, we would be 10x more prepared, we’d work to get everyone tech access, & we’d unquestionably be more safe.
Wow! “Disappointed at school responses to COVID-19”! Reflect on this: The U.S. Secretary of Education has never taught 1 day in a classroom, has NEVER led 1 school or district, but is the chief of ALL school districts in our country. How would she know what she doesn’t know?
Looks like a lot of us in KS are about to really find out how hard of a job teachers have...and that’s gonna be dealing with like 1-2 kids a home, not a class of 25!
