"What's inside them Gran?"
"Inside mountains? Dirt, I reckon."
"But under the dirt. INSIDE, IN the big mound, what's IN there?!"
How a 3yo fell in love w/ hiking. 50 yrs. later I'm still not too sure exactly what is INSIDE those mountains. More than dirt Gran, definitely.
the appalachian mountains are older than saturnโs rings. the appalachian mountains are older than dinosaurs. the appalachian mountains are older than trees. the appalachian mountains are literally older than BONES. the appalachian mountains should be regarded with pure terror.
Goodnight twitter.
I hope you all cherish a similar memory. Oh if only "I could save time in a bottle"... Gonna drift off, remembering how it felt, how the world felt, then.
@MagicalOverload Blizzard of '78.
"Storm of the Century" Gulf Coast FL, '93?
Hurricane Andrew.
Ice Storm '98, ME.
I'll take blizzards. I can wait inside endlessly. But gd FL storms take your roof, windows & ALL. Nothing like living on an island, waking to 3' water INSIDE, whole island underwater
Your teachers are striking.
Your nurses are striking.
Your railway workers are about to strike.
โNobody wants to work anymoreโ is deliberately obtuse. What nobody wants anymore is to work in understaffed, overburdened, underpaid positions so 2 dozen ppl can get rich.
@TheNextSummitA1 Extra socks sealed in a zip lock. Wool is your friend. Leave your phone at home. Take a cam instead & revel in all the tiny wonders on the forest floor. Fungi, wildflowers... once found a woodstove 10 miles from nothing.
Take nothing but pictures. Leave nothing but footprints.
Me nowhere near the coast of Maine, but surrounded by moose & coyotes... Get yer arse moving Martha! Long friggin' way to Boothbay & the water isn't warming this time of year. The gd orcas will go south & then we'll be stuck down "there" with the lot of you. MOVE IT!
Orcas. ๐๐
You know what? I don't even know if I'm a socialist or a communist or an anarchist. I just know that things are not working well for the majority of humans on Earth because a tiny minority of humans are hoarding all the wealth for themselves and that there has to be a better way.
Many nights we sat in a little hunter's blind, watching the bog & all critters who called it home. Maybe the beaver couldn't see us, but they'd give a tail slap to let us know, they saf smelt us. Watched Momma moose raise twin mooselets there. Dragonflies of ALL colors & MOSS ๐
I love bogs for a million reasons. One is that they have removed carbon out of the atmosphere and locked it away in peat, thus cooling the Earth's climate for thousands of years. Today, we urgently need to protect bogs to protect our climate. Save a bog, save ourselves.
In the 1990โs police in Saskatchewan, Canada would arrest Native men and drive them to remote locations in sub-zero temperatures. They would then abandon them to freeze to death. This deadly practice was known as a Starlight Tour โ No police were ever convicted for their deaths.
@freckled_frack Your garden is fabulous! It gets better, every year. Gran & Ma lived 3 miles apart. Completely diff. soil & water at each. We had corn gone wild, while Gran couldn't grow it at all. I love gardening but can't have any currently. So I've been quite fond of yours. ๐
@QuinnCat13 Why tf do they even make decaf espresso?! I'll be stuck on that all night. Nevermind try to wrap my head around... IN OJ?! Might as well dunk a pancake in there, mash it up & call it breakfast. My gawd. Here I am putting normal espresso in a dark roast & get weird looks for that!
