Dr. Bashir Ajer- representing the Minister of @MTWAUganda as Chief Guest at the 1st National #Biodiversity and #conservation #Research , emphasized the need to keep the fire of knowledge burning by ensuring that research findings are widely shared through publications and integrated into the structures of the Ministry and UWA.

He noted that evidence without adaptation changes nothing and called for stronger links between research, policy, and practice. He commended researchers and academicians for generating critical knowledge that informs conservation and sustainable development.

He reaffirmed the Government's commitment to supporting research, innovation, ecosystem restoration, and evidence-based conservation, stressing that research must ultimately translate into action and impact.

UWA – Ishasha

We are privileged to share the exciting news of a newborn lion cub in Ishasha. We sighted the cub today in good health while it was feeding alongside the pride on a fresh kill.

This is a wonderful sight and a positive sign for the continued conservation of lions in the Ishasha sector. We look forward to watching this young cub grow and thrive in the wild.

UWA to open a regional zoo in Eastern Uganda (UWEC–Mbale Zoo)

UWA has begun relocating wildlife to Uganda’s first regional satellite zoo in Mbale. So far, lions, a zebra, a waterbuck, an ostrich, and peacocks are thriving in their new home.

The project will bring wildlife conservation and education closer to communities across Eastern Uganda.

Looking forward to the official opening on 12th June 2026.

Last week Bosco and Winfred from the Kyambura Lion Monitoring Team spotted Tibu and Jill mating in the Mweya Peninsula.
This area was previously dominated by the older males, Biko and Sankara, who have not been seen for over six months now.
