Dolphins June 3 minicamp recap:
The play of the day was a 40 yard strike from Willis to Sims for a TD in the end-of-game, move the ball period. Willis took the offense down the field and scored on a drive that started at the -30 with to play. He beat a blitz by ripping the ball down the middle hitting the back foot and firing a laser. The safety tried to make a play but was a beat late, allowing Sims to rumble in.
Another solid outing for Malik as he play on time and in rhythm with accuracy throughout the day (second in a row, for my money).
Willis’s unit got another end-of-game period and on the first play Chop Robinson beat Kion Smith for a sack. Immediate dispatch with speed and dipping the corner by Chop. Been a solid week for 44. Chop and Uche teamed up for a sack later in the drill to put the offense way behind the chains. Uche was in the backfield earlier in 11v11 that would’ve resulted in at least a QB hit.
Ewers threw some damn good balls, too. He hit a pair of chunk gains over the middle in the final 7 on 7, then found Atwell for 25 and 15 on back to back plays on his end of game situation. The first ball over the corner under the safety on a line drive.
Jalen Tolbert made a bunch of catches, Malik Washington involved, too. They’ve been consistently open this week.
Paul-Proctor-Brewer created some nice running lanes in 11 on 11 late, but the period started with back to back Brooks TFLs. The all-pro captain was everywhere today. Both of those Brooks plays were set up by Grant holding the point of attack, and Chop setting a hard edge.
Chris Johnson had one of the more impressive PBUs you’ll see in 7v7. Started up on the LOS, wound up making the play as Wilis tried Tutu in that soft spot behind the corner and under the safety. He also broke up a quick throw from Willis to Washington in the end of game period.
I have a ton more, which I’ll cover on the podcast this afternoon.
Hafley on Zayne Anderson: Good teammate, smart, physical. Zayne is the type of guy that if he needed to go in the game I wasn’t going to lose any sleep over it. I have a lot of faith in him. Very mature. Very unselfish. He knows what he’s doing it. He studies it hard and has worked very hard to put himself in the position he’s in now. It comes back to trust. I trust the guy.
Hafley on Juju Brents - Juju has done a really nice job. Great length, good feet for his size, athletic. When you go back and watch his tape when he was healthy he was doing a really nice job.
Hafley is asked about Tyrel Dodson's mindset amid the Dolphins adding a bevy of LBs this offseason - I don't think that should change. Every year you should feel like you have to compete for your job otherwise you're going to plateau.
Haf says T-Dot sees the game really fast, very intelligent player. He hasn't seen anything other than a player who is striving to get better and be a great teammate.

Dolphins OTA June 2 recap:
Malik Willis’ first pass of the day was picked off by Juju Brents, but he was sharp from there.
A handful of completions to the intermediate part of the field on time and on target. Willis had a couple of completions to Malik Washington for chunks and a pretty big gainer to Jalen Tolbert. Kevin Coleman caught a crosser from Malik that might’ve gotten out the gate – gain of at least 20.
Jordan Phillips had a pair of TFLs in the opening period. He continues to be a force inside.
The defense did some blitzing and I thought the OL had a lot of success picking them up. Jonah Savaiinaea had a good day for my money. He looked patient in his sets and punches and was getting things sorted.
Patrick Paul and Kadyn Proctor cleared lanes on back-to-back reps for Ollie Gordon. They displaced the LOS and Gordon had 3 yards of runway before meeting any defenders. Thought Salyer and Heck had some nice vertical displacement in the run game, too.
Willie Gay’s second-level speed jumps off the field to me. He’s so quick to get out wide on quick throws to the perimeter and tag off.
Trey Moore showed the goods when he matched Dulcich step for step on a ball down the middle for about 20 yards, scored the breakup.
Chris Johnson had a beautiful break up against Tolbert on a good deep ball from Willis. Tolbert got on top, Johnson got back in phase, ball got in there, but CJ was able to punch it free at the last second.
Plenty more to come on the podcast tonight.
On what he's looking for from Chop, Hafley says to become an every down player. Praises his attitude and effort, mentions playing at the wide 9 and reducing down to the 6 and 5 technique.
