*Upcoming webinar* - Join us today as @CGIARclimate scientists share “Guidelines and good practices for achieving gender equality outcomes through climate services.” https://t.co/vVysnlZCQg
Earlier today, we hosted @JohanRomare, the Diakonia Regional Director for Africa & Dinah from @DiakoniaUganda for a discussion about human rights situation in Uganda. This year, we are partnering with Diakonia & @SwedeninUG to support feminist & climate change HRDs.
#CivicSpace
Over the past 10 years, CO2-concentrations in the atmosphere have continued to grow and have reached record heights. In 2019, we urgently need to increase our ambition to reach the goals of the #ParisAgreement and win the race against #ClimateChange. #10YearChallenge
We're concerned by increased threats and attacks against @AmanzWillieONE and other Environmental HRDs of @FriendsofZoka by loggers in Adjumani district. EHRDs often face risks and suffer violations for their work defending the environment and indigenous rights.
#DefendDefenders
On January 11, 2019, @AmanzWillieONE and other HRDs from @FriendsofZoka in the company of some local leaders conducted a tour of Okawa village in Adjumani. While there, they found many Afzelia africana tree logs illegally harvested. The tree is a reserved specie in Uganda.
When the HRDs engaged the person who had apparently contracted locals and a tractor to tow the logs in preparation for transportation, she charged towards the environmental HRDs and threatened to harm @AmanzWillieONE, the lead activist of @FriendsofZoka.
As a result of the threats and attacks, @AmanzWillieONE has since registered a case of threatening violence and attempted murder at Adjumani Central Police Station. We hope @PoliceUg will take appropriate action to bring the perpetrator/s to justice.
#DefendDefenders
We will continue monitoring the situation in Adjumani. We call on the @PoliceUg to protect rights of environmental HRDs operating in the district by taking action to combat impunity for attacks & violations, particularly by non-state actors.
#DefendDefenders
Almost half of the world’s oceans suffer from man-made destruction such as overfishing, poor fishing practices & poor waste management. We must all be part of the push to #SaveOurOcean.
The process may be painful, but the purpose is going to be well worth it. One day, you’re going to look back and see how God used everything you went through.
A full compilation of the Paris Agreement rulebook proposals is out, including the contentious article 6 text. The plenary hall is filling up: https://t.co/qNl44WaNcf #cop24
