If you know that a hitter is afraid to make the wrong swing decision, then back off on this metric. It will be better in the long run to see a hitter go after a few pitches off the plate than to remind him that his chase rate is going up again.

But if you know you have a perfectionist on your roster, be careful with what you’re asking. And if you see a hitter taking hittable pitches, don’t just assume that he needs to be more aggressive without investigating WHY he’s taking those pitches.
